This tutorial assignment was pretty fun, because of how much information this dataset had, and all the ways that you could sort and display the data in order to show it. However, I think that while the number of categories does increase the number of ways you can look at the data, it also means that sorting and cleaning the data can get more confusing, as the majority of this tutorial was just throwing away the categories that weren’t interesting. Additionally, I think that the data set could have been even better if there had been more categories about the type of crime, more specific than just ‘crimes against persons’ and ‘property crimes’. If, hypothetically, I were to study two more things about this dataset, the first would probably be to look to see if there were any trends within each county over time, and the second would be to see if I could find some way to compare the trends within each county with each other. If I were to follow up, I would probably try to see if there was anything specifically that happened in 2012 to cause such a spike in hatecrime, and I would also see if that spike also happened in other major population centers in other cities.
