Natural Gas Transportation
Natural Gas Transmission in Mexico
The transportation of natural gas by pipeline involves receiving the gas at one or several “receipt points” and delivering it at one or several “delivery points.” The transportation system connects these points through one or more pipelines linked to different facilities whose purpose is to control the physical behavior of the gas: compression stations, sectional valves, and regulation and measurement stations, among others.
In Mexico, these systems are operated by private companies or by the National Center for Natural Gas Control (CENAGAS), which is a decentralized agency of the Federal Public Administration. This transportation infrastructure, both public and private, is connected with various cross-border pipelines that carry natural gas produced in different basins located in the United States for export to Mexico.
CENAGAS
Since July 2017, CENAGAS has provided transportation services to carriers on a firm and interruptible basis in the network with the highest capacity and coverage, the National Integrated Natural Gas Transportation and Storage System (SISTRANGAS).
