Sampling Weights

Dataset used: Ghana MICS6 Packages used: survey, srvyr

Importing the Ghana MICS6 Dataset

The Ghana MICS6 Dataset:

  1. Non-self-weighted
  2. Multi-stage, stratified cluster sampling approach.
  3. Sampling Weights: To handle non-response and sub-samples. fsweight and fshweight are the Children 5-17’s and Children 5-17’s household sample weight respectively.
  4. PSU is the Primary Sampling Unit : The Enumeration Areas
  5. stratum is the strata variable that factors in the Region (WESTERN,CENTRAL,GREATER ACCRA,VOLTA,EASTERN,ASHANTI,BRONG AHAFO,NORTHERN,UPPER EAST,UPPER WEST) and the Area (urban or rural)

fsweight and fshweight are the Children 5-17’s and Children 5-17’s household sample weight respectively

The sum of all weights in fs_weight shoul give the total population it is representing.

According to the Findings Report, https://mics.unicef.org/sites/mics/files/Ghana%202017-18%20MICS%20Survey%20Findings%20Report_English.pdf “A sub-sample of children age 5-17 years was used to administer the questionnaire for children of age 5-17 years. Only one child was selected randomly in each household interviewed, and there were 21,760 children (5-17 years) listed in the household questionnaires. Of these, 8,965 children (5-17 years) were selected, and questionnaires were completed for 8,946 which corresponds to a response rate of 99.8 percent within the interviewed households. Overall response rates of 97.8, 96.7, 99.2 and 99.2 percent are calculated for the individual interviews of women, men, under-5s, and children age 5-17 years, respectively”
