Introduction

Hello, my name is Alex Jarvis. I am a current junior at UC and I am pursuing a degree in Information Systems and a certificate in Business Analytics from UC. I have lived in Cincinnati all my life and am a huge fan of all Ohio sports teams, but love to watch the Bengals and the Blue Jackets. In my free time I like to play golf and basketball, watch sports, and hang out with my friends.

Professional Background

I am currently working at The Cincinnati Insurance Companies (CIC) as an IT Vendor Analyst Intern and have been working there for a little under two years. I work in the Vendor Management Office which is under the Information Security Office. As CIC has hundreds of vendors, a lot of my day to day work consists of working with spreadsheets and dashboards to gather data on vendors and relay this information back to my co-workers.

Experience with R

Prior to this class I have heard of R, but have never used it. I am completely new to R, but have found that the last two weeks of class have been very helpful and I am starting to get some of the basics down. I enjoy coding, so I am excited to learn more about the functionality of R and learning more about the various data functions in R.

Experience with Other Analytical Software

I have moderate knowledge in Structured Query Language (SQL) and limited experience with Python and HTML. In my Database Design class last semester, we spent a lot of time working with SQL to analyze and manipulate databases. I am also learning HTML this semester so I will be able to practice more with that language as the semester goes on.
