Hello! My name is Lydia Charles. I am a second year at UC double majoring in Business Analytics and Operations Management, with a certificate in Business Spanish. I am originally from Lexington, KY and love Cincinnati so far.

Professional interests:

Through my internship experience last summer at Toyota, I found that I am interested in manufacturing. During my internship I got to experience both operations management and work with data. It was a great experience and I can’t wait to return this summer! School excites me, I love exploring how OM and BANA go hand-in-hand.

Personal interests:

A few of my favorite things are hiking, live music, and dance. Bryce Canyon is my favorite national park, here’s a link where you can learn more.

A fun fact:

I have hiked the deadliest hike in America!

My experience with analytic software:

I have beginner knowledge in Python, Java, and PowerBI and would like to go deeper in each of these soon.

My experience with R:

I am brand new to R but have enjoyed learning it so far.

Here is an example of code from my first week of BANA 4080:

kg <- c(69, 62, 57, 59, 59, 64, 56, 66, 67, 66)
lbs <- kg * 2.20462
hts <- c(62, 58, 61, 61, 59, 64, 63, 61, 60, 62)
bmi <- (lbs * 703) / hts ^ 2
mean(bmi)
## [1] 25.99967

In this code I combined weight values into a vector, applied the BMI formula, and then found the average BMI for the given weight vector.

And I know how to write formulas! Here is the formula for the area of a circle!

\(A = pi * (diameter/2)^2\)
