## A change about it would be to have classes with less students in them to make them more personal and be able to have any questions answered.

## 1
## Allow them to be done online so if other things take precedent, I can still have access to material for studying.
## 1
## Allow them to be done online. Not everyone can stay on campus for it.
## 1
## Allowing us to begin as class starts, not wait for another 10 mins to make sure everyone is there. I was late to my next class a lot because they pushed back the start time.
## 1
## Allowing us to complete the questions right after class. I had recitation right after my lecture, but they would make us wait for 10 minutes which was pointless. We were ready to get going and get them completed.
## 1
## Allowing us to work on the assignment at home
## 1

## 1
## Changing what questions are required. Make it so that if there are 6 questions and 4 are required, it can be any 4 questions out of the 6 instead of the first 4 questions are required.
## 1

## 1
## Divide the class into smaller groups.

## 1

## 1
## Do it in smaller groups.
## 1
## Doing it faster
## 1
## don't let it be ran by someone who is hard to understand I had a very hard time understanding what he was trying to say, I don't really have a problem with accents but at least make sure they speak ok English. I didn't want to ask questions to ta's because either i couldnt find them or they were busy or it was the really weird looking ones. so idk just get a few more ta's and have them walk around more.
## 1
## Don't let people choose what problems they want to do. This was only used in the earlier parts of Recitation, but I believe its best to only make students solve specific problems, as it reduces the amount of cherry-picking that goes on. Students can get practice on all topics by doing this, instead of possibily choosing problems that lets them go in and right back out of Recitation sessions.
## 1
## Don't make it due to the end of class
## 1
## Don't make it the same day as a Chemistry lecture. Due to already attending lecture earlier in the day, it makes it easier to forget about recitation. Separate them.
## 1
## Don’t make them mandatory let the students decide if they want to better themselves or not
## 1
## dont do them
## 1
## Dont have them
## 1
## dont make them mandatory because people dont try on the questions in class, its more helpful to make them optional because not everyone needs extra help on everything
## 1

## Extend the due time
## 1
## extended due date of assignment
## 1
## Feel more time should be given to the explanations of the problems, too much time is given to solve them
## 1
## fewer people
## 1
## Focus more on problems that we would see on the exams.
## 1
## for it to be optional or for you to be able to attend online
## 1
## Force people to work together because I did not find working alone beneficial during recitation. This was my fault because I was too shy to ask someone to partner up, but I think assigning groups would solve that problem.
## 1
## Get better TAs who can actually answer your questions without being wrong
## 1
## get rid of them
## 1
## Getting started on our work immediately when class begins
## 1
## Give extra time to submit the recitations because wifi can be a pain.
## 1
## Give links to video and lab games to do after you get done with the questions, or give us something else to do like maybe the next week recitation questions to get ahead.
## 1
## Give more explanation behind answers
## 1
## give more time for longer questions and less time for shorter questions
## 1
## give more time to finish the work. its due and hour and 25 minutes after the recitation so there were times where i would still be working and it would not let me submit and I had to take a zero.
## 1
## Give people the code and don't take so long. Show us the problems
## 1
## give printed question paper so we can solve it .
## 1
## Give us the code on time to I can get out of there, the TA's don't even let us start until like 10 min into class.
## 1
## Giving less time on practice problems, and more time explaining the problems in depth.
## 1
## Go faster between questions.
## 1
## go over questions quicker
## 1
## Go over the answers sooner, I feel like a lot of the time I spend the majority of recitation waiting.
## 1
## Go over the problems sooner or work through one together first then do the rest on our own.
## 1
## Go through every problem together instead of leaving some out.
## 1
## Go through questions one by one so that everyone can understand before we move on.
## 1
## Go through the answers more periodically through the session instead of all at the end. This will help me because sometimes I do not know how to do a single problem but answered all the other ones and have to wait until the end of recitation to determine how to solve the problem.
## 1
## Go through the answers sooner or at least the first one in case people are stuck and they can't figure it out.
## 1
## Going over the answers relatively quicker, giving us like 5-10 minutes per problem, depending on how long obtaining the answer takes.
## 1
## Going slower or faster depending on the day
## 1
## Harder questions that are non graded
## 1
## Harder questions with explainations
## 1
## Hasn't got enough questions.
## 1
## Have attendance not be mandatory. In my learning community one of our LC days is chem review. When studying, recitation worksheets is the last thing I think about doing to study. There are already so many resources to study chem that recitation just seems like one more thing I have to do when it is really not helping me that much.
## 1
## Have better explanations of problems and more TA in class.
## 1
## Have explanations be more thorough and slowed down to ensure everyone has a chance to understand and catch up.
## 1
## Have extra credit for those to do the whole assignment
## 1
## Have it be a smaller group of people and make it more engaging.
## 1
## Have less people in recitation, do it in groups half the size.
## 1
## have mandatory assignments but not lectures
## 1
## Have more practice sets in them for the exams as number of questions would help prepare better.
## 1
## have more problems that you have to solve.
## 1
## Have more questions available to do.
## 1
## Have more recitations, there were too many people in the class for the amount of people that you could ask for help, splitting up the classes more would help.
## 1
## Have more TA's and LA's in the room to make the question answering process easier and more time efficient.
## 1
## Have our recitation instructors go over the problems as the class progresses.
## 1
## Have people who speak English fluent teach it
## 1
## Have TA go to you instead of you going to them.
## 1
## Have the answers posted so that people who get done early can leave and still be able to see what they did.
## 1
## have the answers posted somewhere so I can leave class as soon as I'm done working all of the problems.
## 1
## Have the people walk around instead on sitting in a corner not helping anyone.
## 1
## Have the professor explain the questions during the lecture and not just during the last 10 minutes.
## 1
## Have the questions and keys posted after class sometime
## 1
## Have the worksheet be available online and then people can go in if they have questions.
## 1
## Have them at different times\n
## 1
## Have them be not mandatory. Or be able to work on them at home. Especially as someone who is a commuter having recitation so much later in the day than all my other classes is aggravating and definitely makes me not want to go to the class. If I was able to hop on a zoom from home or had the option to physically attend recitation or not it would make that a lot easier. I still feel like it is important to do the extra practice material so I feel like they should still be a mandatory assignment but just change the location in which the assignment must be completed.
## 1
## have them earlier in the day
## 1
## have them move a little bit faster
## 1
## have them online
## 1
## Having designated groups in recitations so people have to meet with each other in every recitation
## 1
## Having explanations on how to do the questions posted after recitation would be helpful.
## 1
## Having it be required as a lot of the time I felt I didn't benefit from it.
## 1
## Having more than just a set of practice problems and being more engaging.
## 1
## Having more time because when a the LAs came to help, the person would start to explain how to do the problem.
## 1
## Having the code on the board from the start of class so that we could start working as soon as we got in instead of waiting til the class period actually started to start talking.
## 1
## Having the TA's give more detailed explanations of how they arrived at the answer rather than just putting the answer on the board and expecting us to know the steps.
## 1
## Having them set up the slide show before class since it seemed to always have some sort of tech issue.
## 1
## Having to be in the class, there shouldn’t be a code to be able to do the work. You should be able to do it from home if you’re not having trouble with chemistry.
## 1
## Help meout more\n
## 1
## Helps go overall problems and explain the content on a more simplistic level.
## 1
## Honestly I wouldn't really change anything. I like how open and free it is and how it is easy to get questions answered.
## 1
## Honestly just even having them. I don't think recitations are worthwhile. SI sessions were more useful, especially due to SI being optional. Freeing up time to do other classwork is key for students who have to work.
## 1
## Honestly nothing, I love the set up and the amount of help offered!!
## 1
## Honestly nothing, they were good practice.
## 1
## Honestly to be optional I do not think they're that beneficial I think it should just be extra homework to do at home.
## 1
## Honestly, I don't think that they are bad but they were just not useful for me. The questions they ask are easier than the aleks questions and I do the aleks questions before recitation so they were never really useful for me but I think they are useful for people who are struggling more and are looking for help.
## 1
## How difficult it can be to get the answers submitted.
## 1
## I actually think the layout of Recitations was great. They were able to fit in a good amount of work over multiple different topics, did well at explaining, and all within the given amount of time.
## 1
## I am a huge fan of how recitation currently is. I feel as if the questions are thought provoking and bolster my knowledge of the question and subject.
## 1
## I am confused as to why they exist. There is no chance to ask any questions whatsoever, and it ends up being a 25 minute homework assignment with required attendance.
## 1
## I am not a fan of the chemistry recitation sessions because sometimes it feels like the problems we are working on don't directly correlate with the things we talk about in class. I also think it would be more beneficial to not meet and maybe just make it an assignment.
## 1
## I am not sure who wrote recitation problems, but I would change them significantly. They were often way harder than in class/exam problems and took too much time to figure out considering how short recitation was and how he would start going over answers so fast. And I know this is more of a volume of students problem, but honestly the huge auditorium really discourages asking questions or working 1 on 1 with TAs. I only know one person who asked a recitation TA something once the entire time I was in recitation. I would either make the recitation sheets more of a homework thing or somehow find a way to make the group smaller so that asking questions felt possible and less intimidating.
## 1
## I believe recitation could be more helpful if they were in smaller groups (similar to L. C's or slightly larger)
## 1
## I can't think of anything
## 1
## i cannot think if anything, i really liked recitations.
## 1
## I didn't like how my lecture and recitation were back to back
## 1
## I do believe recitation sessions can be helpful especially when I am stuck on a concept, although If possible I would wish for earlier in the day. The timing of them I feel like I always want to get it done as soon as possible.
## 1
## I do feel like not all of the TA's are on the same page with answering questions. For example, I have heard many people say that they've received different teachings and answers from TA's over the same concepts. I think this can cause lots of confusion, especially in a class like Chemistry.
## 1
## I do not believe that recitation had to worth a percent for your grade. If a person wanted to come than they should, but not because they have to. Recitation for me did not help.
## 1
## I do not have any changes at this time
## 1
## I do not have any criticism about recitation sessions.
## 1
## I do not think I would change anything.
## 1
## I do wish the recitation sheets could be longer, still completing around the same 3-5 problems during actual recitation, but they are really good practice and although we have the weekly additional practice problems, it would still be great to have more, as for me and most other chemistry students, you have to learn through practice problems, and that is the only way to actually understand how to approach any problem, and then figure out the steps you need to take to get to the answer.
## 1
## I don’t have anything I would change.
## 1
## I don't have anything.
## 1
## I don't like the attendance quiz
## 1
## I don't like the questionares during chemistry, they take too much time and ask the same questions over and over again but with different wordings and they are worth a grade when they should be extra credit or just optional.
## 1
## I don’t mean to be racist but the person who guides through I can’t understand what he says due to his accent and I feel bad for saying this because I am sure he knows his chemistry and he must be an excellent person but it does limit my learning because I can’t understand
## 1
## I don't really have any complaints about the recitation sessions.
## 1
## I don't really have anything
## 1
## I don't really have anything I would change, I think it was great the way it was.
## 1
## I don't think anything needs to change
## 1
## I don't think hat there's anything to change in recitation sessions.
## 1
## I don’t think I would change anything about it.
## 1
## I don't think I would change anything, I just didn't like how late in the day I had mine.
## 1
## I don't think I would change anything.
## 3
## I don't think I would change anything. I thought they were very helpful.
## 1
## I don't think I would change much, except to not feel so rush towards the end with a lot of class time still left to keep practicing.
## 1
## I don't think I'd change anything, they were really helpful.
## 1
## I don't think there is anything I would change.
## 1
## I don't think there is anything to be changed.
## 1
## I don't think they should be graded based on accuracy, as they are meant to be extra practice and not to harm your grade. I think assignments should be graded on completion, because while it is important to go, I don't think you should be penalized for answering an extra practice question incorrectly.
## 1
## I dont like how they were mandatory to attend and you only had that time to work on it, like how it closed right after class ended. I feel like if it was a canvas quiz that didn't show the answers and was graded automatically, it would be better.
## 1
## I dont like them, make them optional for extra points
## 1
## I enjoy how recitation sessions work.
## 1
## I enjoy the current system
## 1
## I enjoy the structure of the recitations and would not change anything.
## 1
## I enjoy them
## 1
## I enjoyed recitation
## 1
## I enjoyed them a lot I wish that maybe they would go over all questions however and not the only ones that get you full credit
## 1
## I feel like it should be optional to go in person or just answer the questions online and submit them by a certain time. Although I feel as though the questions can be helpful, sometimes it feels like a waste of time to walk all the way to a class just to answer a couple practice problems.
## 1
## I feel like they often didn't pace it correctly. Some times we would have so much time between reviewing answers, and other times it was so rushed.
## 1
## I feel like they should be optional.
## 1
## I feel like they should go over each question one by one. Usually, they would go over like the first 2, then the next 3 and so on. I think it would be beneficial to just go over each question and not group them together. I feel this because sometimes you just need to see the first one done to jog your memory and then you can do the rest of the assignment no problem, but instead you have to wait for a while and then get the first three answers when you really just wanted the first one to help you get started.
## 1
## I feel really rushed in the recitation sessions.
## 1
## I feel that attendance shouldn't be mandatory
## 1
## I feel that recitation is fine how it is now.
## 1
## I feel that the idea of the recitation classes is good, but the execution of said classes are bad. I understand the general principle of why it would be believed to be beneficial, but given the very tight time frame of the class, the questions feel more rushed, and as a product, feels much less productive than it could be. It's completely understandable that recitation classes for very large general classes would be held in such large rooms, but I feel that a good number of people including myself would agree that a smaller number of people would be much better for focusing. It would be difficult to do, since the main idea of the recitation classes is to have TAs around you for if you need help, but I also feel that possibly using a virtual option for the class would be good. A large number of students may not even need the assistance of the TAs, and all of the commotion only reduces productivity I feel.
## 1
## I feel that they are ran well. I really like the setup of the class.
## 1
## I felt more problems could've been added, I would get through them within the first ten minutes. While I got the practice I needed, I felt there was more potential for learning
## 1
## I felt that recitation was too quick. I felt that I wasn't able to digest the knowledge to bearable consumption. I didn't have time to solve questions, as they always show the questions when I start to work on them.
## 1
## I had a little difficulty understanding the professor.
## 1
## I have a couple more TAs to go around and answer questions; felt that I was waiting a very long time at times.
## 1
## I have no recommendations.
## 1
## I have no suggestions to be added to the recitations.
## 1
## I honestly think they are good how they are. You get some practice problems from that week to get re-exposure to the topics and better understanding which is what is needed.
## 1
## I honestly would not change anything. I liked the way it was ran and there was always TAs around to assist if needed
## 1
## I honestly wouldn't change anything about the recitation sessions, I found them very profitable and useful throughout the semester.
## 1
## I just don't think it is quite helpful in my opinion. That is not how I like to review and practice chemistry problems. I think it would be better if they just like when over questions and explained the problem-solving more in-depth than the lectures do.
## 1
## i just feel it doesnt really go with the problems in lecture and exams
## 1
## I just feel like they’re unnecessary and don’t really help. It’s the last class so people want to get out of there as soon as possible so they aren’t even trying
## 1
## I know there are way to many kids to make the group smaller but it would help it be less overwhelming.
## 1
## I know this is a big ask, but I really wish that there was a professor to help keep the recitation more under control. Unfortunately, the TAs struggled to deal with how loud the recitation would get and it would be overwhelming sometimes.
## 1
## I like chemistry recitation
## 1
## I like how the recitation is designed, but I think the TA's should go over one problem at a time rather than all the problems at the end.
## 1
## I like the recitation sessions and wouldnt really change anything. I think it is really easy to ask questions and get them answered with the professor and assistants.
## 1
## I like the way that the recitation sessions are structured. There is nothing I would change about them. I like that you are given time to work through the examples and then the solutions are shown.
## 1
## I like them as they are
## 1
## I liked how recitations were done so nothing.
## 1
## I liked them a lot and they were ran very well.
## 1
## I personally thought the recitation sessions were good and I would not change anything about them.
## 1
## I really liked having more personable SI leaders, especially Jack who was ready to help and explain problems our group struggled with. Other students did not go into depth about concepts we had questions on which is understandable since it is a large class with time constraints.
## 1
## I think doing a couple problems then explaining really helps, rather then explaining after every problem or doing them all and explaining all at the end of recitation. It was done this way a couple times and I really enjoyed it.
## 1
## I think everything is still good and I have no idea to change anything from this course.
## 1
## I think going over the problems periodically instead of all at the end can help people who are struggling with the early questions to understand and apply the concepts instead of just copying all the answers down.
## 1
## I think I would change how they sometimes only go over a few problems and not all of them. I find myself needing more of an explanation to a problem and they skip over it.
## 1
## I think I would like that more MCQ based questions are given.
## 1
## I think I would've liked if each TA would've introduced themselves at the beginning of the semester. We saw the slideshow with all their names but that was it. I think if there were a more personal introduction/connection, people wouldn't feel as awkward asking questions or going to them directly for chemistry help.
## 1
## I think it is run well. I like that there are TAs that walk around during recitation.
## 1
## I think it would be better if they got split up and different TAs took smaller groups into separate classrooms. It's easier to ask questions that way.
## 1
## I think it would be more beneficial to use the time to work on homework assignments and get help for those rather than adding more work to already stressed out students.
## 1
## I think recitation sessions are structured well. I do not have any changes that come to mind.
## 1
## ĂŤ think Recitation sessions would have been more effective in small groups, though I obviously understand why that wouldn't be possible.
## 1
## I think recitation works very well at least for me so I would not change anything about it.
## 1
## I think sometimes the TA's do not need to give so much time to go through the questions but rather halfway, they can go through the answers.
## 1
## I think that adding more problems would be better in the long run
## 1
## I think that I would not put a number on the amount of questions we must finish. Sometimes, I worry more about finishing the problems on time instead of how good they are.
## 1
## I think that it would be beneficial to go over the answers and explanations faster during recitation. Sometimes it can be explained so slowly that it's frustrating.
## 1
## I think the only thing is that it is a inconvenient time for me. There should be other options besides 3 o'clock.
## 1
## I think the recitation sessions run smoothly how they are.
## 1
## I think the recitations are a good for review. If I would change one thing, maybe adding a few more problems for studying would be beneficial.
## 1
## I think they are structured fine but should be worth credit.
## 1
## I think they are well directed and structered
## 1
## I think they do a pretty good job so far so keep it up!
## 1
## I think they run pretty smoothly as is.
## 1
## I think they should be online, and due a certain day. I think that they shouldn’t be a 40 minute max class.
## 1
## I think they should be online. Going in person was pointless to me and a waste of time. I think the assignments should open that morning and then be due at 11:59 that night and if I have any questions, I could just email the TAs.
## 1
## I think they should be smaller in size.
## 1
## I think they work good as is
## 1
## I think they're great. I don't feel as if they need to change.
## 1
## I think they're perfect.
## 1
## I think they're really good as they are and should be kept pretty similar.
## 1
## I think we could either work through the problems together as a class that way we're not spending the whole class wondering if we did the questions right, then trying quickly trying to change it at the end of the class if we got it wrong.
## 1
## I think working through some of the problems everyone has issues with as we go along as a class might help sometimes. There are only so many TAs/LAs in the room so sometimes they can't get to everyone.
## 1
## I thought that the recitations were a good class that helped deepen the understadning of course material.
## 1
## I thought the chemistry questions were well thought-out and there was an ample amount of LAs to answer our questions. So there is nothing I would change.
## 1
## I thought the recitation session were great! We got straight to chemistry. I got to work on problems with my study group and then instructor explanations clarified any lingering questions I had.
## 1
## I thought they were very smoothly ran
## 1
## I was content with the recitation sessions. I have no input.
## 1
## I wish attendance wasn’t mandatory. I understand why they are…but I think people who want to ask questions will either go to recitation, attend office hours, or seek other problem solving opportunities. There are so many ways to find help if you aren’t understanding the concepts.
## 1
## I wish I was able to understand the RA that gives the explanations of the problems.
## 1
## I wish it was a smaller class size.
## 1
## I wish my recitation had better teachers because my recitation leaders went through the worksheet problems very quickly and wouldn't break down the problems enough
## 1
## I wish recitations were a bit faster paced. Not necessarily the questions themselves but there was so much time taken in between starting a new problem that it would get boring.
## 1
## I wish the recitations were in smaller classrooms
## 1
## I wish the TA didnt go so fast when going over the questions at the end
## 1
## I wish the TAs walked around more
## 1
## I wish there were more "extra" questions that weren't due.
## 1
## I wish there were more general knowledge questions as those come up frequently on the exams.
## 1
## I wish they provided mock exams
## 1
## I wish they would show more steps when showing the problem on the projector.
## 1
## I wish you'd have until the end of the day to turn the assignments in just in case it glitches and there's time to fix it, or if you're sick you can just get them in later.
## 1
## I won't change a lot.
## 1
## I would allow more time for students to work through problems on their own before beginning to go over the correct answers.
## 1
## I would always sit in the front of the lecture hall to make sure I could get questions answered and it made it so much more personable. Maybe make it feel smaller with more people to help answer questions or more group work.
## 1
## I would appreciate if the assistance given at recitation was more direct and focused on a problem.
## 1
## I would ask for this to be optional or in smaller groups so people can get 1 on 1 time
## 1
## I would ask that for the questions to be shorter, or if we only have to do a certain amount of questions don't put multiple questions into one problem.
## 1
## I would ask that the TAs walk around more and seek out people to help. about half of the TAs stood in one spot and talked to one another.
## 1
## I would break them up into smaller groups with individual TA’s leading rather than them wandering around in the large lecture hall.
## 1
## I would change how boring they are, and I feel like the instructors oversimplify things that make it hard to listen to.
## 1
## I would change how long they gave us to answer the questions. There were many recitations where we did not have time at the end to fully go over the questions.
## 1
## I would change how quickly the professor goes over the problems. If I get done quickly I have to wait a while until the professor goes through the problems.
## 1
## I would change it so that you are able to participate from home. I did not feel like I needed help at any of the recitations and would have been able to do it from home.
## 1
## I would change it to showing examples of similar problems so that everyone that didn't really understand how to complete the questions in chem lecture could be shown how to do it another time and then give a set of questions to complete and turn in.
## 1
## I would change recitation sessions so that they are in a smaller classroom. It is hard to cous with so many students in Zimmer 400.
## 1
## I would change recitation sessions to be optional instead of mandatory because I feel like the classes weren't as helpful as I had hoped. A lot of the time the recitation practice problems didn't really align with what was being taught in class and it made me feel less confident in the material. Although it was nice to be able to ask questions, the content and problems gave me more stress about the class than was needed.
## 1
## I would change required in-person attendance. I think there should be a virtual option if you feel confident in the material so that people do not have to attend recitation in person. I would have to drive to campus (commuter student) just to stay in recitation for 20 minutes and then leave (40 minute drive each way) which made me end up completely skipping some recitations since I did not feel this was worth it.
## 1
## I would change the amount of time spent on problems. It seems unbeneficial to have students work on problems that are quickly breezed over in the last ten minutes of class. Students who do not know where even to start or if they are completing it correctly will not benefit from this.
## 1
## I would change the amount of time the instructor takes to solve the problems on the board. Sometimes I just don´t understand the problem, and as he takes so long to explain, I just prefer to leave the class and study the problems by my own.
## 1
## I would change the amount of work, allowing people to learn more and practice more problems, but I would also allow more misses for people who can't make it that week.
## 1
## I would change the fact that attendance is mandatory because sometimes I felt like it was a waste of time, and I should have had the option to not go.
## 1
## I would change the fact that people get the code and the answers from their friends and decide to start leaving after they sign in to the code. This makes me really annoyed because I'm trying to work, and people are just leaving.
## 1
## I would change the fact that the TA is running it because they explain it a very different way than the instructor would. Which is why I sometimes get confused.
## 1
## I would change the fact that they are unable to be made up. During the semester we get one free drop, however, because recitation happens so late in the day, I often had to prioritize it over other important things in my life that I had to get done. Because we only got one drop, I ended up falling behind in several other areas of my responsibilities that made it hard to juggle in the future. Being able to miss recitations but make up the work sheets for some amount of credit would have been a nice safety net to have.
## 1
## I would change the introduction of the class, the code should be on the board and students can work for the first half and the answers in the other half.
## 1
## I would change the length of recitation and I would make the class smaller.
## 1
## I would change the pace in which the answers were given for certain questions. I feel like some of the questions were answered too quickly while others were answered too slowly and took up the entire recitation while we could have been working on other things.
## 1
## I would change the pace in which the answers were given for certain questions. I felt like the answers should have been given throughout and instead they all seemed to be rushed at the end.
## 1
## I would change the practice problems to be like the problems on the ACS Final Exam, so students can start studying early for that test.
## 1
## I would change the rate at which answers are displayed on the board. Often times they are shown faster than I can get the problems done
## 1
## I would change the recitations to be more of study hall situation and actually have students to be able to ask questions more readily.
## 1
## I would change the required attendance and instead just have people do the assignment on their own.
## 1
## I would change the speed of the session. I feel that the recitation session goes a little too fast for me. I need more time to finish the questions before they are gone over.
## 1
## I would change the time of recitations, I would rather be able to enroll in an earlier morning class, rather than waiting until almost 4pm.
## 1
## I would change the way the SI leaders go through the problems. I majority of the time, they fly through the problems, and it makes it very difficult to understand what is going on.
## 1
## I would decrease the class size of recitation sessions so they could be more interactive.
## 1
## I would do more variety of questions during recitation, maybe adding some from previous units to help students actively keep up their chemistry knowledge and better prepare for the exam.
## 1
## I would extend the due date of assignments past that class time to 11:59 pm, because sometimes, it was stressful to try and turn things in at the end of class because I had a chemistry SI session that started right after, which was quite a bit of walking distance.
## 1
## I would give people more time to finish problems. For me a lot of the times I was still trying to start a problem when the TA's would start going over it.
## 1
## I would go over the answers to the questions quicker, not do them all at once but one by one, and then give us time to work on the next one.
## 1
## I would go over the anwers more quickly, because I feel like I have to wait a while between the completion of my assignment and the explanation of answers.
## 1
## I would go over the problems faster. I was often just waiting for long periods off the class so that we could go over the questions.
## 1
## I would go over the problems with more explanation because sometimes it felt rushed and I didn't understand how they got a specific answer.
## 1
## I would go through the answers in more detail.
## 1
## I would go through the answers to the questions in a more interactive way. For example, there could be a QR code and we all put what answer we got before revealing the answer (similar to Dr. Waddell's class).
## 1
## I would have better explanations to the answers because right now I never understand.
## 1
## I would have it be more interactive and smaller.
## 1
## I would have more examples and more explanation. And have them review what’s was taught in lecture.
## 1
## I would have more TA's and better explanations of how to complete the problems.
## 1
## I would have more TAs so questions can more easily be answered.
## 1
## I would have smaller class sizes so that you can reach out and find the same students more easily. Also, have the majors mixed, so it's not the same people. Also, it's easier to reach out to TAs.
## 1
## I would have the problems worked through from the start so students have time to submit their pictures.
## 1
## I would have the professor put the answers on the board sooner so we don't have to sit there for 20 minutes waiting once were already done solving.
## 1
## I would have the questions explained faster
## 1
## I would have the TA's explain the problems a bit better.
## 1
## I would have them focus on doing questions that are about our exams when we have the recitation the week of an exam.
## 1
## I would have them in smaller classes for more personal questions and for comfortability.
## 1
## I would have them paced up to cover more topics and work more problems.\n
## 1
## I would have them require more problems but make them smaller, so it goes through concepts step by step
## 1
## I would have them take place in smaller sessions reulting in more individual attenshion
## 1
## I would have them talk about the exams more and what type of questions will be on the exam.\n
## 1
## I would have there be more time explaining the methods behind the problems, than have time for the students try to individually solve the. problems.
## 1
## I would hire TA's who actually do their jobs and don't make everything a pointless spectacle.
## 1
## I would honestly make them optional and for anyone that wants more assistance. There were sessions that had questions that I can complete on my own.
## 1
## I would ideally make attendance and practice problem worksheets separate grades, so if I have to miss recitation, I don't lose both grades.
## 1
## I would just have more TAs around to help.
## 1
## I would just like slower explanations. He explains too quickly for me to process and correct my mistakes, and moves immediately to the next question.
## 1
## I would just like to be able to access the answers to the recitation earlier or right at the start.
## 1
## I would just make it more personal but with the size of the class I believe the ta’s do an amazing job
## 1
## i would just make sure that there are more TAs other than that it was a very good overall experience.
## 1
## I would just make them faster paced. I watched so many people just get up and leave the second we got the password for the attendance question and I think it was mostly because of how drawn out the recitation feels.
## 1
## I would just recommend longer explanation over questions. Sometimes I feel that the teacher rushes his explanation making it hard to follow.
## 1
## I would leave more time for working through the problems together instead of rushing through the solutions.
## 1
## i would like for us to go over the questions as we do them. so like give us 5 - 10 mins to do the questions and go over them with us them instead of at the very end.
## 1
## I would like it if we could do the assignments earlier/later in the week so that we don't have to physically be there in the recitation class unless we had questions, because this would open up my schedule a bit more and also help with time management.
## 1
## I would like more in depth solutions to the questions. I feel like we mainly get the answer and not the full explanation of why it is the answer.
## 1
## I would like the recitation sessions to be a bit smaller in terms of amount of people and also longer session times.
## 1
## I would like them to go over a problem or 2 during the class before the assignment is given to help out with how to solve or proceed with the problem.
## 1
## I would like them to maybe be a little shorter, as they are quite long. Also to have answers be reviewed throughout recitation rather than at the very end would be helpful.
## 1
## I would like to get the recitation question earlier in advance I think it helps with overall preparation for doing the questions and asking questions
## 1
## I would like to see more of a follow along to answer questions rather than answer them at the end of class.
## 1
## I would like to see recitation leaders split the class into groups and walk through problems with these smaller groups\n
## 1
## I would like to work on some homework problems that are challenging to some of the class.
## 1
## I would made Recitation sessions longer and less rushed.
## 1
## I would make all the problems required for extra practice.
## 1
## I would make it easier to get the attention of a TA to ask for help
## 1
## I would make it faster. Sometimes there was a lot of waiting around after I have finished. I just wanted to know if my answers were correct.
## 1
## I would make it non-compulsory.
## 1
## I would make it optional because I feel like there were some classes I went to that I knew I didn't need to because I felt so good about the subject. So if they were just posted online that would have helped because then I could just do extra problems on my own time.
## 1
## I would make it optional. For people in difficult and demanding majors, it often takes away time from studying, completing assignments, and taking time for myself and my mental health. I usually do not benefit from this class, and I understand the content significantly better during class. Recite is usually more specific than the exams are, so it is not helpful.
## 1
## I would make it smaller classrooms. In a big lecture hall it is not as effective as my math recitation which was only 20 other people.
## 1
## I would make it smaller, maybe a 40-student class, so you didn't feel unnoticed.
## 1
## I would make it so that the window to submit the assignments is until the end of the day because my canvas has been having problems.
## 1
## I would make it so that we get started on time. We wait for around 10 minutes after the class period has started before the worksheet key is released.
## 1
## I would make recitation class sizes smaller so there is more individualized help.
## 1
## I would make recitation optional.
## 1
## I would make recitation session optional. I feel like there is a lot of people that only go for the attendance. Maybe if it wasn't mandatory people who actually wanted or needed to learn would show up.
## 1
## I would make Recitation sessions optional for the people who feel like they want and need extra help because the problems that we work on during recitations are the same problems that we work on in class so it does not help as much as the Chemistry lecture itself does.
## 1
## I would make sure the person leading the problems does the entire problem because if I am waiting for them to do it to teach me, then it would be helpful for them to truly teach the entire problem.
## 1
## I would make the answers without work available because sometimes I just want to know to know if my work is correct for a problem, but I have to wait 10 minutes for the TA to solve it. If there was an answer key, I would be able to just check to see if my work was correct, and if it wasn't then I could wait for the TA to explain it with work.
## 1
## I would make the assignment not close at 5 because if someone has to leave recitation because the next class is coming in they may forget to submit it right away.
## 1
## I would make the class sizes smaller to make it easier for those shy to ask questions if needed.
## 1
## I would make the class smaller so it feels more 1 on 1.
## 1
## I would make the classes smaller if possible so that TAs can help a little more.
## 1
## I would make the classes smaller if possible. Due to the large number of students, it is often difficult for all questions to be answered. However, the teaching assistants do a great job of this as is.
## 1
## I would make the interactions more interactive and give the role to the students to be active throughout the learning process. These can be based on structuring the content through smaller, snappier and more interactive styles of teaching, such as group work, problem solving and new collaborative and real-time challenges that move away from the rote, slide-based lecture styles of old. Rather than a passively absorbed learning experience, we will strive, the goal would be to make recitation an active workshop stop for inquires that is characterized by students feeling comfortable asking about, disputing concepts, and grappling with that material through application. If they were focused on generating classes that were more thought-provoking, memorable, and universal in its specific and collaborative aspects in practical skills, specially designed and coordinated with self-study assignments, were focused on more peer interaction, recitation sessions could become much more interesting for students and, in turn, deepening complex subject material understanding.
## 1
## I would make the practice questions more similar to the ones on the exams.
## 1
## I would make the questions more similar to things we have actually done in class because a lot of the times it is way different than what we have been doing. I also think the instructor speeds through explanations at the end.
## 1
## I would make the recitation sessions quicker so there wasn't a lot of down time and waiting around.
## 1
## I would make the recitations more like the exams. The TA's are also not very good
## 1
## I would make the solution explanations go one by one instead of all at once because there have been many times where I have made a mistake on one of the problems that carried through to the rest. After the first explanation, I can analyze my mistakes and it would be beneficial to my learning if I could try another similar problem to see if I can recognize any mistakes and fix them for the next time.
## 1
## I would make the speakers and teachers for the class more understandable
## 1
## I would make them a bit longer if anything
## 1
## I would make them connected to chem class because it was always at an odd time and day.
## 1
## I would make them have smaller class sizes.
## 1
## I would make them less crammed sometimes. It seems overwhelming.
## 1
## I would make them less tedious at times
## 1
## I would make them more interactive.
## 1
## I would make them more involved with the TAs and change the pace of how quickly or slowly they go over problems.
## 1
## I would make them much smaller, only having about 20-30 students in one class. This would make it less intimidating to ask questions and work with peers.
## 1
## I would make them optional because I don't feel like they are necessary if you already know the content.
## 1
## I would make them optional because of schedule conflicts
## 1
## I would make them optional.
## 1
## I would maybe change the class sizes(make them smaller) to get a more one on one time.
## 1
## I would maybe change the location of the recitations. Sometimes I would get stuck sitting in the back of Zimmer auditorium and I wouldn’t be able to see the work being displayed on the board or read the code they give us.
## 1
## I would maybe change the pace of recitations a bit. I feel that sometimes I just sit and wait forever for the answers to be given just so I know that I did the problems correctly. I usually resorted to just asking the TAs if my answers were correct so that I could leave early.
## 1
## I would maybe have more recitation leaders, most students have to wait a long time to get their question answered which leaves not a lot of time to complete the assignment.
## 1
## I would maybe make them a little smaller; my recitation class size is the same size as my chemistry lecture. If the class was smaller, it would be easier to ask questions.
## 1
## I would not
## 1
## I would not change anything
## 4
## I would not change anything about Recitation
## 1
## I would not change anything about recitation sessions because they are very helpful to prepare for exams and all professors and TAs in recitation sessions are very open to answering questions and provide great answers.
## 1
## I would not change anything about Recitation. I think overall it is super helpful.
## 1
## I would not change anything about the recitation classes as they have been helpful.
## 1
## I would not change anything about the recitation sessions
## 1
## I would not change anything about the recitation sessions I believe that they are held good.
## 1
## I would not change anything about the Recitation sessions, I think they are set up very nicely and I have gotten a lot of extra practice and questions answered by attending them.
## 1
## I would not change anything about the Recitation sessions.
## 1
## I would not change anything about the sessions themselves, however, a document of the answers a few days later would be a great study tool for future exams.
## 1
## I would not change anything about this course
## 1
## I would not change anything about this course.
## 1
## I would not change anything for recitation sessions
## 1
## I would not change anything I think that they are planned out perfectly.
## 1
## I would not change anything in recitaiton.
## 1
## I would not change anything regarding the recitation sessions
## 1
## I would not change anything! I love that they are mandatory, with two skips per semester. This way if I'm sick I can miss a class or two without worrying about the reflection in my grade, but can still come in every week and work on the material with a group of people and not be graded entirely on accuracy.
## 1
## I would not change anything.
## 4
## I would not change anything. Maybe give the code so you can do the work online.
## 1
## I would not change anything. Recitations helped me grasp unknown topics and helped build my understanding.
## 1
## I would not change how the Recitation sessions are set up.
## 1
## I would not change much besides the speed at which they are conducted, there was a lot of time wasted on easier and faster questions leaving less time for the more complex problems that I needed help with.
## 1
## I would not change recitation
## 1
## I would not have changed anything about recitation other than maybe making it earlier in the day.
## 1
## I would not make the attendance for the recitation sections mandatory. I do the recitation sheets every single week, but I have to drive to campus at least 45 minutes on the days that I have recitation since it is my only class. I usually get done with the sheets within 10 minutes and it seems like a waste of time for me to come to campus for that.
## 1
## I would often not receive extended help on questions because of the large recitation hall and other students asking questions. I also felt like the class was rushed. I would suggest changing the pacing to allow students to answer questions and add more TAs to answer student questions.
## 1
## I would only change the time i had recitation because it was back to back and it ended a little bit late for someone who has to drive home.
## 1
## I would open the worksheets up for the day rather than just for the recitation period, and make the recitation period more of an optional time to come in for questions and explanations about the worksheet. The worksheets would still need to be completed, but I believe keeping recitation time open would be beneficial.
## 1
## I would prefer them to not to take as much time between questions to go over the answers seeing that the sessions are not long, but they could be made shorter, while allowing that "extra time" to bee used for people that need it.
## 1
## I would promote mandatory team problems. You do not really have to work with others when there, so making a team mandatory is not a bad idea.
## 1
## I would provide an accessible answer key for people that submit their work early, so that people that are better at learning on their own can view their mistakes in chem recitation and ask questions about them.
## 1
## I would provide the questions for recitation in advance so that people can complete and submit them on their own time and attend recitation if they have any additional questions relating to the recitation assignment.
## 1
## I would push the students to ask at least one question per session.
## 1
## I would put them in smaller room to make others more comfortable to ask questions and not get distracted when people are leaving.
## 1
## I would rather them be online as it sometimes feels useless to have them in person. To combat not having questions answered, it would be nice to see a discussion post where students can ask questions (preferably anonymously) and then have them answered by a teacher or helper. This way questions also only have to be asked once and everyone else can see the answers, or someone who is uncomfortable asking questions can ask one anonymously to the discussion post or see an answer to the same question that someone else previously asked.
## 1
## I would rather there be more choices to the problems provided so students can work on problems they need help with
## 1
## I would recommend that the recitation groups are smaller, or make family groups where one TA is helping that section. This way, there is more organization when answering questions and students will be able to meet each other.
## 1
## I would reduce the size of the class to make it more likely to work in groups. As a socially anxious person i found it quite difficult to bring myself to work in groups with other people.
## 1
## I would remove the code so people could still do them at home/ at a dorm because they are still doing the work, and most people leave before the explanations after anyway
## 1
## I would say just going through each problem one by one rather than going over all of them at the end, that way everyone is more focused and we have a deeper understanding of each solution.
## 1
## I would say offer more practice problems like the ones in the recitation so if people are struggling they can do those.
## 1
## I would say to have it more than once a week. Since it will help in improving exam performance and improve consistency in chemistry.
## 1
## I would say to make attendance not mandatory. While it is a great opportunity to learn and understand material that is complicated, not everyone will be having issues with that material. It should be that those who need the help can go and receive it, while those who don't have questions practice those problems on their own time.
## 1
## I would say we shouldn't have them because they just write the answer and all the work on the board and if you don't ask for help on something your stuck on then youre just waiting for the answer to be given to you so you can copy it down.
## 1
## I would send the worksheet out ahead of time instead of giving it in class.
## 1
## I would separate them so that you can have a more personal connection to the TA's and feel more comfortable asking questions.
## 1
## I would split recitation up more so that each recitation has at most 30 people.
## 1
## I would split them into smaller sections so that the environment is less distracting.
## 1
## I would start sooner. It takes them 10 minutes to display the access code and then they start with question one right away. display the code and then let us work for those 10 minutes and then hammer out how to do the problems almost one after another.
## 1
## I would start the week off with Recitation and then have a lecture class and then another Recitation to end the week. I wouldn't have 4 sessions in total, only 3. I also would keep 2 out of those recitation because practice problems really help in understanding the content.
## 1
## I would suggest starting to review questions as students complete them instead of doing all of them at the end of class.
## 1
## I would want the leader to work through each problem step by step and have them post the solutions after class.
## 1
## I would want us to be in a classroom with tables grouped together so that we can work with other people even if we don't know them. It's helpful just to be facing other people because it encourages collaboration. I would also like for the instructors to maybe give us some hints 5 or ten minutes into solving a problem like hint 1 hint 2 if we are getting stuck.
## 1
## I would've liked the leaders to give us more time to work on the problems and ask questions and then work through it quicker on the screen.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything

## I wouldn’t change anything

## I wouldn't change anything\n
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about my chem recitation sessions.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about my recitation sessions!
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about Recitation session
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about recitation sessions they are run very well.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about recitation sessions.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about recitation.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about recitation. This is great practice and helps me figure out what I know and do not.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about the recitation sessions, I thought they were helpful.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about the recitation sessions.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything about the Recitation sessions.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything overall it was a positive experience and beneficial one
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything they helped me understand the material for the exams
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything,
## 1
## i wouldn't change anything, i think that it was a great way to meet other people sitting around you and I was able to ask questions wherever i was confused. i also appreciated the fac that the TAs would do the problems as the class went on that way ik knew that an explanation would help me understand any confusion
## 1
## I wouldn’t change anything, it’s fine as is.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything.
## 8
## I wouldn’t change anything.
## 2
## I wouldn't change anything. I like the way they are
## 1
## I wouldn't change anything. I think recitation offers sufficient practice with explanations in preparation for the exams.
## 1
## I wouldn't change anyting.
## 1
## I wouldn't change them much they seem to be very helpful.
## 1
## I wouldn't make them mandatory, so that people who need help feel more comfortable asking questions since they would be surrounded by others who are in the same boat.
## 1
## I wouldn't really change anything about recitation, I feel like it was pretty helpful, and there were a lot of TAs so that helped.
## 1
## I wouldnt change anything
## 1
## If anything I believe recitation would result in shorter sessions, as most leave before they are over, and more in-depth descriptions of the answers gone over in the end.
## 1
## If I changed anything, I would make more of the recitation sessions like the first recitation session. We were originally told that each week we would have to complete half of the problems on the page, but there were quite a few weeks where there were no extra questions. For some reason, it feels more stressful to only have the required questions on the page, and it gives fewer opportunities to use the recitation questions as a practice quiz.
## 1
## If I could change anything about the recitation classes, it would be to have the TAs explain the problems more in-depth or slower. This wasn't a major problem but it happened a few times and I struggled with those problems.
## 1
## If I could change anything about the Recitation sessions, it would be to make them smaller. I believe that smaller learning groups are more helpful and provide the opportunity for more one-on-one learning.
## 1
## If I could change one thing about chemistry lectures, I would email the graded question back to the students so we can use it to practice.
## 1
## If i could change one thing about recitation sessions I would make them smaller in any way they can. It is hard to focus with that many people in a room.
## 1
## If I could change recitation sessions, I would make them more interactive and focused on practical applications. Incorporating real-world problem solving, such as analyzing biomedical engineering case studies, would make the sessions more engaging. I’d also encourage more group work to promote peer collaboration and teamwork skills. Lastly, having dedicated time for personalized Q&A would allow students to clarify specific doubts. These changes would make recitations more engaging and relevant to our future careers.
## 1
## If I could change something about recitation It would be to not make it so long. Most of us get there and are ready to start working however, we have to sit there and wait for 10-15 minutes before we can even start on anything because they don't put the code up. Also most of us finish early so we just sit there doing nothing while they go over the problems that aren't helpful.
## 1
## If I could change something about Recitation sessions, I would suggest incorporating more interactive activities that allow for deeper engagement with the material. For example, small group discussions or hands-on exercises could help reinforce concepts in a more applied way. I think more opportunities for personalized feedback on assignments or questions would also help clarify difficult topics. This would make the sessions feel more dynamic and tailored to individual needs, enhancing overall understanding.
## 1
## If I would change anything about Recitation sessions, I would post the answer keys to the worksheets after the submission due date has passed.
## 1
## If possible make the class sizes smaller to make it easier to learn and actually talk to the TAs.
## 1
## If possible, an increase in more TA's would allow for students to be assisted with quicker and in more time.
## 1
## If the amount of questions per assignment was consistent. Having to do a different of question each recitation was not the best.
## 1
## If the key was released early for the questions that aren't required to be completed. Mostly because if I am required to do questions 1, 2, and 3, I will try to do all the questions but then I finish with them. And then I do not know if they are right unless I wait the entire class until they go over them.
## 1
## If there were less questions overall and they had the answers posted afterwards so we could veiw it\n
## 1
## if we can do problems quicker instead of waiting around for 10 min. because it isnt really helping.
## 1
## if you are able to do it correctly on your own, you should be able to do it from home and save yourself time
## 1
## in my opinion it being mandatory to begin with as most of the time recitation can be just as an extra practice and most people just need chatgpt to solve it
## 1
## in recitation it's so hard to get the attention of the TA's and when you do they always explain something the long way. maybe that's why it's hard for them to get to everyone. it would be nice if they were more concise.
## 1
## In the past, my favorite recitation sessions have been ones where there are smaller groups set in smaller rooms. I feel more comfortable working with the same of people in a room with only 30 odd people, not over 100.
## 1
## Include more questions.
## 1
## Including multiple choice questions like in an exam
## 1
## Involvement
## 1
## It is beneficial. Have the TAs go up to some kids more and ask them because some kids are scared to ask questions even when they have some.
## 1
## it is just a big environment, and it can be difficult to ask questions. There is no way that I feel as though that can be changed because there are so many people taking the recitation.
## 1
## It not be mandatory
## 1
## It should be an online assignment or an online class
## 1
## It sometimes felt really chaotic and hard to pay attention to the explanations because there was a lot going on. Maybe somehow controlling all of the students might make it easier to pay attention.
## 1
## It would be helpful if the helpers actually walked around to see if we need help instead of just standing at the front of the class doing nothing
## 1
## It would be nice if they could be held in smaller sessions of ~30 people, similar to how Physics 1 does its recitations.
## 1
## It’s fine I attended all and it was cool
## 1
## It's perfect and it serves it's purpose
## 1
## its difficult when the content hasnt been taught yet.
## 1
## Its perfect the way it is
## 1
## just make them an assignment not a class period.
## 1
## Just more questions
## 1
## Just to have the people more interactive with the students.
## 1
## keep all answers and solving steps posted to review.
## 1
## Less in person
## 1
## Less longer
## 1
## Less people for more time with the TA's
## 1
## Less people in the class.
## 1
## Less slow paced.
## 1
## less students
## 1
## Let it not count against my grade
## 1
## Let the questions be discussed as and when students are doing it instead of at the end.\n
## 1
## Letting us know before hand what topics they will cover and give the solutions once the assignment in closed.
## 1
## Make attendance not mandatory. The recitations feel like they should be something to help when needed and not something that should be required. Therefore, making the attendance not mandatory would allow for people that really need the help to attend in person and ask questions, while also allowing those that don't need the help the ability to get the assignment points without needing to attend.
## 1
## Make it a longer period of time to go over more problems.
## 1
## Make it a smaller room if possible with easer help and less overwhelming in a giant lecture hall
## 1
## Make it earlier in the day.
## 1
## Make it less boring
## 1
## Make it more about asking questions rather than just completing practice problems. It is hard to complete problems when you are unsure of how to solve them.
## 1
## Make it more active with smaller study groups.
## 1
## Make it more collaborative with my peers. If possible, we could have designated groups to work on the assignments with.
## 1
## Make it no longer mandatory to be in person to do the work. I would be helpful if there was an alternate way to receive credit for the recitation work without having to show up in person.
## 1
## make it optional to have online recitations
## 1
## Make it optional, personally I went to the recitations but I still had to end up teaching myself the material not because its the instructor’s fault it’s mine I just don’t learn that type of way if that makes sense
## 1
## make it possible to do even outside the class
## 1
## Make it smaller more one on one.
## 1
## Make it so that they have the equations needed on one screen and them doing the work on the other
## 1
## Make it so we have all day to complete it. The assignment opens at the start of the day and closes at the end of the day. We can complete it anytime, just have to complete it by the end of the day.
## 1
## Make more mcqs question and increase the duration of class time
## 1
## Make more practice problems
## 1
## Make more questions for each assignment.
## 1
## Make more questions on the worksheet and spend more time going over how to do the problems instead of giving so much time to work on the problems.
## 1
## make non mandatory
## 1
## Make only half of the recitations mandatory.
## 1
## Make Recitation sessions optional.
## 1
## Make showing up optional
## 1
## Make sure the LAs actually care and don't just get mad at you for asking a question
## 1
## Make TA's more competent
## 1
## Make the assignments due in the late evening, so that if you sought out to practice more thoroughly you could.
## 1
## Make the class size smaller to make it feel more welcoming to ask questions
## 1
## Make the classes smaller so it is easier to get help and understand.
## 1
## make the classes smaller.
## 1
## Make the due dates later
## 1
## Make the final recitation a practice exam.
## 1
## Make the overall sizes smaller so questions can be answered easer.
## 1
## Make the problems actually like they will be on the exam because they never once helped me understand anything that was gonna be on the exam and just felt like a waste of time.
## 1
## Make the questions more challenging
## 1
## Make the recitation sessions shorter with less problems.
## 1
## Make the recitiaton sessions smaller, or available remotely
## 1
## Make the sessions divided out more into smaller groups of people. This way the recitation is more of a one on one with the students and less of a lecture, where it can be a little more difficult to receive feedback on a personal level.
## 1
## Make the Ta’s leading the class be more knowledgeable because they had to stop and try to figure stuff out while they were teaching
## 1
## Make the TAs get there quicker and start quicker.
## 1
## Make the time to work on the problems longer
## 1
## Make the worksheets available beforehand
## 1
## Make them a little bit shorter.
## 1
## Make them available from gome
## 1
## Make them completion so that students focus more on understanding than just getting the correct answer
## 1
## Make them just give the code or unlock it, i do better working on the assignments outside of the classroom because it’s way too loud
## 1
## Make them less boring/optional, sometimes I felt like I did not want to go to recitation classes because I already knew the material from high school.
## 1
## Make them less people and less chaotic. Also after struggling for 20 minutes they should just go over the problems.
## 1
## Make them longer more explanatory \n
## 1
## Make them longer or happen more than once a week with more problems.
## 1
## Make them more condensed for more group interaction
## 1
## Make them more personal
## 1
## Make them much more interactive for students
## 1
## Make them multiple choice but you still have to show your week.
## 1
## Make them non mandatory
## 1
## Make them non mandatory.
## 1
## Make them not mandatory
## 1
## Make them not mandatory because often times they are at inconvenient times and I feel as studying on my own would help more than the recitations. Also if I still have to go to recitations next semester some improvements could be that we go more in depth explaining the answers and giving us an adequate amount of time to complete it however not take forever to reveal the answers or go through the problem.
## 1
## Make them not mandatory to be in class, but just be there to answer the questions in the allotted time.
## 1
## Make them online
## 1
## Make them online or not required
## 1
## Make them only mandatory if you need to.
## 1
## Make them optional
## 2
## Make them optional I feel to physically attend because some people need the practice and some people don’t depending on the chapter
## 1
## Make them optional please. I feel like only students who aren't doing well should attend because most of the time I already knew what I was doing and it was kind of a waste of time.
## 1
## Make them optional, make them able to do at home
## 1
## Make them optionoal to go to or give an online option.
## 1
## Make them quicker.
## 1
## make them shorter and have to attend less
## 1
## Make them shorter, I always feel like because there's so many people I can never concentrate so I don't actually learn and it cuts into my studying time
## 1
## make them smaller
## 2
## Make them smaller
## 2
## make them smaller so students can have there questions answered more efficiently
## 1
## Make them smaller so TA's are more accessible and it is more easy to ask questions/get help.
## 1
## Make them smaller. Having a room of 300+ people does not really help with learning. This recitation (and math recitation for that matter) should be similar to math SRS with small more focuses learning instead of yet another lecture but just discussing how to do the problems.
## 1
## make them with the materials from the week before
## 1
## Make then earlier in the day
## 1
## make turning things in the end of the day
## 1
## making it optional to come/making it online.
## 1
## Making it smaller as it is hard to feel heard or understood in such a large setting
## 1
## Making it so you have to do the work. SO many people just cheat and leave
## 1
## making smaller groups so it is easier to ask questions and to go at a pace that is better for all the students as whole.
## 1
## Making smaller sections so they’re more personal and comfortable for others to ask and learn
## 1
## Making some more optional. For a lot of people this class has a giant gap at the end of the day which makes it inconvenient for some of my commuter friends and inconvenient for those who have things to do but can't because of the timing for this class.
## 1
## Making the recitation assignments more points.
## 1
## making them a longer so that way the teachers can have time to actually explain a equation rather than skimming through how to do the question and giving us the answer
## 1
## Making them not mandatory bc i feel like I waste my time being there for 15-20 min
## 1
## Making them not required partially, like making you attend half of them throughout the semester.
## 1
## Mandatory attendance. Why do I have to leave my room to do homework?
## 1
## Many of the questions ask for an answer for each individual step of solving a problem. I find that this gets in the way of the process and take my mind out of the problem solving state.
## 1
## May be the structure of the recitation sessions should be adjusted a little bit.
## 1
## Maybe be put into groups
## 1
## maybe breaking the big lecture groups into smaller groups led by a TA so that students can feel more comfortable getting help.
## 1
## maybe give less questions to work on because sometimes I have to rush through the questions to finish them in time
## 1
## Maybe go over problems earlier so explanations can be more in depth.
## 1
## Maybe have more problems that student have to do. Most of the time they just do the ones that are required and leave. I think by making the other ones worth credit it would bring up grades and help students on exams.
## 1
## Maybe have more recitation TAs
## 1
## Maybe have the class be smaller or split in half because with that many people its hard to focus.
## 1
## Maybe have the student helpers that are walking around actually be more attentive to the students instead of just talking to each other and ignoring the students with their hands raised. I think that having them in smaller groups would be more beneficial as there would be less people who would need help if there were questions.
## 1
## Maybe having more TA's so questions can be answered more efficiently because it is such a large class.
## 1
## Maybe instead of working though them at the end go through it during the whole lesson.
## 1
## Maybe just make them a bit smoother
## 1
## maybe less rushed explanations, I understand there's a time limit for the class, but I believe people not just myself would appreciate a more in-depth explanation of complex problems in chemistry.
## 1
## Maybe make class session sizes smaller, so students feel more comfortable to ask questions, and TAs can give as much help as needed.
## 1
## Maybe make it a smaller class?
## 1
## Maybe make it a smaller group, having a large recitation group made it difficult to form study groups or find a study partner.
## 1
## Maybe make the explanations of problems more clear.
## 1
## Maybe make the questions a bit more relevant to what we may see on the exams.
## 1
## maybe make them a little more personal Its difficult to feel comportable asking questions to people you dont really know.
## 1
## Maybe make them accessible from home, some people prefer to work independently
## 1
## Maybe more interactions with people who need help
## 1
## Maybe more smaller class sizes
## 1
## Maybe opening up the attendance quiz 5-10 minutes before recitation starts; a lot of people get there early.
## 1
## Maybe shorten them. It felt like I had to wait a long time after I finished a question to see if my answer was correct.
## 1
## Maybe small class and less students.
## 1
## maybe smaller groups
## 1
## Maybe working through the problems together the whole class time, but making the students work through the problems by answering them as we went along.
## 1
## Might be too big, I think smaller groups would be better.
## 1
## More 1 on 1
## 1
## More definitive answers to questions asked rather than explaining the question in a round about way or explaining a certain part of the question rather than giving a straight answer.
## 1
## more engaging
## 1
## More engaging
## 1
## more enthusiasm
## 1

## 1
## More in-depth explanations
## 1
## More interactive
## 1
## More interactive - students can bring questions instead of required worksheets every week.
## 1
## More of the same types of problems.
## 1
## More one on one individual practice with TA
## 1
## More optional practice
## 1
## More optional practice problems
## 1
## More practice problems are step-by-step solutions after Recitation session.\n
## 1
## More problems
## 1
## More problems so they can be reviewed.
## 1
## more questions
## 1
## More questions
## 1
## More Questions
## 1
## More questions on the worksheets but not graded. Maybe some examples before starting on worksheets.
## 1
## More questions that are related to the exam and probably a answer sheet desribing in detail how the problems are solved.
## 1
## More questions that would be on teh exam
## 1
## More questions would be nice for practice.
## 1
## more questions, honestly
## 1
## More similar problems outside of the required ones that I can do later. If we have to complete questions 1-5, make 6-20 that aren’t required that are good to study outside of recitation
## 1
## More so focused on what each student needs to focus on individually. Have groups of people go to certain areas where certain TA's are focusing on a certain type of problem/concept.
## 1
## More TA's because it took forever to get one to answer your question.
## 1
## More TA’s so it’s easier to get questions answered.
## 1
## More TA's to help!
## 1
## More TAs
## 1
## More TAs, there are a lot of students so sometimes it takes a while to get your questions answered.
## 1
## More teaching and people to answer questions
## 1
## more test questions so we can get a feel for what theyd look like
## 1
## More time an dbetter explanations
## 1
## More time going through the answers to the questions.
## 1
## more time outside of recitation to finish so that we get full credit
## 1
## More time slots
## 1
## More time to answer questions and give little hints throughout the session
## 1
## more time to do problems and submit the work
## 1
## More time to submit work. It takes time to submit and I can feel pressured that my work isn't correct.
## 1
## More time to work on the questions and ask questions.
## 1
## More varied options for practice tests, or just have Tas send them out after
## 1
## Much smaller classes with the opportunity to ask questions in a slower paced environment. There are teacher sessions, but I do not have time because of my other course work.

## One thing I owuld change about recitation sessions is how quickly we go over problems. Instead of waiting until the end of the block to go over all problems, i would like to do one every few minutes.
## 1
## One thing that I would change is the punctuality of the class, as we often started a couple minutes late and didn't have as much time to work on the problems.

## Optional attendance, it would be nice to have the choice to do it online some weeks.
## 1
## paying attention
## 1
## Perhaps making the TAs more approachable/letting us get to know them a bit better to make us more comfortable around them
## 1
## Perhaps we could work through one problem together in the lecture room and the rest do on our own w assistance from TA’s per usual
## 1
## personally I did not benefit much from them as I have a strong intuition for chemistry and already know how to study and learn the material needed for classes. I could have spent that hour each week being more productive in other areas.
## 1
## Please don't make them required. Make them optional which gives credit for participating in recitation.
## 1
## Please have the recitations start on time.
## 1
## Please make the material actually what we will have on the exams
## 1
## Please pair students up to form dedicated study groups and incentivize them to do so, I don't know how, but I was completely alone this semester. I have gotten used to working alone so while it was difficult it was not unfamiliar to me which is both sad but I say this because I would imagine a lot of freshmen just now taking this class will not have any support groups nor know anybody, so for them it is much worse.
## 1
## please show the codes earlier
## 1
## Possibly make it in a smaller group setting, so that student feel more comfortable asking questions
## 1
## Possibly smaller class sizes.
## 1
## Post a key for the problems after the session. I would have liked to see how they were done.
## 1
## Post answers after recitation
## 1
## Post answers half way though the Session so people who completed the assignment early can check their own work.
## 1
## Post the answer to the questions after recitation to be able to go back and review the problems again.
## 1
## Post the answers after class.
## 1
## Post the answers after the recitation assignment is due.
## 1
## Post the answers after the recitation.

## Posting the key after you submit attendance quiz
## 1
## Potentially the amount of explanation for each problem.
## 1
## Present solutions to problems periodically throughout the class instead of all at the end
## 1
## Probably just starting earlier, we kept starting like 10-15 minutes late for some reason.
## 1
## Probably the delivery time of the assignments because they give very little time to upload them
## 1
## Put the answers up sooner and work through the problems faster
## 1
## Put up the code at the start of class\n
## 1
## quicker
## 1
## Quicker answers and less time to work.
## 1
## Quicker explanation and maybe a remote option.
## 1
## Quicker explanations
## 1
## Recitation being recorded and posted (after the due date and time for the attendance quiz and assignment has passed) would be helpful so students can go back and watch the explanations of how the problems are solved.
## 1
## Recitation sessions are the best they can be, in my opinion, right now.
## 1
## Recitation was amazing and I wouldn't change anything
## 1
## Recitation was such a large class section - it was overwhelming for me to try and keep up with the rigid timing required for such a large section. They give us 5 minutes per problem which should be enough but this class isn't a review for me, I don't remember anything from Chemistry in high school - this might as well be the first time I've seen the material and I need considerably more than 5 minutes per practice. \n\nMaybe it's because I haven't been in college for over 15 years, or maybe it's because the college I attended before was so small, but I felt super stressed out in recitation and in class a lot of the time. My partner / the person I sat next to during class and recitation was lightyears ahead of me on all the material which just made me feel even more stressed because then I felt stupid. \n\nFor me personally, it would have been helpful if recitation could have been just 20-35 people in class. Less intimidating and easier to ask for help. Sometimes it felt like, when I did ask for help, the TAs were expecting me to have like, a 60% understanding of the material when what I needed was help starting at 0% understanding... which goes back to me not having had chemistry since 2008.
## 1
## Recitation worked well for me so no.
## 1
## Recitations are structured well. There is nothing that I can think to change.
## 1
## Recitiations being mandatory
## 1
## Review problems faster
## 1
## Shorter session
## 1
## Shorter time
## 1
## Shorter Timeframe
## 1
## Should be smaller
## 1
## Show answers earlier instead of rushing through them at the end, maybe do the recitation time divided by how many questions there are and that's the frequency you'll show the questions so that people can check as they go. so 1 hour recitation with 6 questions means 10 minutes per problem and you show after those 10 minutes.
## 1
## Simpler questions to lead into harder ones, or make the hard questions step by step.
## 1

## 1
## Smaller class sizes. It would encourage more disscussion
## 1
## Smaller class sizes. With larger groups it hard to feel that its actually helpful and its harder to get individual help
## 1
## Smaller class with less people so theres a better chance that a TA will notice you.

## 1
## Smaller group like Calc srs
## 1
## smaller groups or class sizes
## 1
## Smaller groups or seating for a more focused session.
## 1
## Smaller recitations!!!
## 1
## Smaller sections sizes. When the sections are as large as the lecture are, it doesn't feel easy to get the attention potentially needed for help. As well as having a pre-written worksheet that could be filled out by students, instead of risking technological issues with taking a picture, converting it into PDF and then uploading onto canvas. I had an ipad, so it was incredibly easy to do so, but I know other students didn't have access to the same technology, and it was a lot more challenging.
## 1
## Smaller sessions and better explanations
## 1
## Smaller sessions, I think would encourage more participation.
## 1
## Smaller size of classes so it feels more personable
## 1
## Solving more problems
## 1
## Some of the questions on the recitation assignments did not appear on the exam. That is really it.

## Some recitations were overly easy or difficult. If they were structured so that there was at least one hard question to answer and one easy question with difficulties in between the two for the other questions, I believe it would prepare us better.
## 1
## somehow make it more inclusive
## 1
## Sometimes during recitation, especially as it got later in the semester, the instructors would often rush through explanations due to starting late. Also during some questions they would only go through a part of the question but not the rest, which was quite annoying as I would very often have the method right, but I wouldn't be able to check my final answer without needing to call a TA over.
## 1
## Sometimes I didn't think they were worth the time
## 1
## Sometimes I feel like the questions can be a lot more challenging than the ones on the exam and make me start to lose confidence in my ability of performing good on the exams.
## 1
## Sometimes I wish we could start quicker. It’s not like I feel rushed or anything but I would like it if we started on time
## 1
## Sometimes the TA’s had language barriers that made asking questions hard.
## 1
## Sometimes the things we do in recitation are not well explained or too complicated for what we have done so far.
## 1
## Sometimes there are too many questions to get done within the given time.
## 1
## Sometimes they need to go other the questions faster
## 1
## Sometimes we didn’t have time to work through all the required problems
## 1
## Sometimes, it was difficult to complete all of the recitation problems in the time given. So, it might be helpful to cut out excess questions in the future!
## 1
## speed up
## 1
## Standardize the material. I lost points on the last exam because the recitation answers/notes didn't line up with any online materials
## 1
## Start at 3:30 instead of delaying and waiting around until like 3:50
## 1
## Start going over answers earlier so the students have more time to write stuff down.
## 1
## start on time.
## 1
## Start quicker; sometimes they talk too much at the start
## 1
## Start working on showing the answers sooner because it can be slightly boring waiting until the end for answers
## 1
## staying and listening to all of the content
## 1
## Take longer on the problems or evenly space them out. He will talk about the first one for forever and then speed through the other ones.
## 1
## That they have to be done during that certain period of time
## 1
## That time limit is needed yet not very appreciated. More discussion on WHY we are learning this in chemistry rather than remembering equations.
## 1
## The amount of problems we have to do within the time frame
## 1
## The amount of time in class.
## 1
## The answers to be gone over sooner.
## 1
## The attendance
## 1
## The class is too big for everyone to get help
## 1
## The class was definitely useful and has a good purpose, I just didn't enjoy going to it because I commute to UC and it was my only class on Thursdays. However, there is nothing you can do about that, and I don't see anything that should actually be changed.
## 1
## the code should be provided as soon as class starts
## 1
## the due dates
## 1
## The girls mic is too loud. Also, not having the due date at 5:00 PM was the most frustrating, because I did all of my assignments but if I forgot to submit then all the effort was for nothing.
## 1
## the grading was really bad. If you don't show work on just one problem you get half credit
## 1
## The instructor needs to start the explanations sooner and be more thorough. Sometimes they were too fast
## 1
## The instructor should go slower, he gives us 20 minutes before he started going over the answers
## 1
## The length of the assignments.
## 1
## The length of them because everyone was mostly done and gone before the class ended.
## 1
## The mandatory attendance. I feel like it is a class that if you need help in it, that you attend. Making it mandatory even though you understand the material can feel like a waste of time occasionally
## 1
## The one thing I would change would be to have fewer people in the room. It feels difficult trying to do the work when so many other people are talking or not doing the work and just waiting for the correct answer.
## 1
## The only thing I would change about Chemistry Recitation is that I wish there were more TA's for individual questions. Besides that, I feel like the class did a great job pursuing its purpose.
## 1
## The only thing I would change about recitation is how at the end going through the problems seems very rushed if you don't understand how to do it.
## 1
## The only thing I would change about recitation would for it to be more interactive with the TA and not just going over the answers at the end and maybe incorporating something else.
## 1
## The only thing I would change is going more in depth about the problems and maybe adding more pictures.
## 1
## The only thing I would change is having maybe a video solution to the recitation problems so that we can also go back and watch these videos with explanations later as review for exams, which would help in case we forgot some of the explanations for the solutions to some problems.
## 1
## The only thing I would do is that I wouldn’t make it mandatory for them to be in person, as long as people still submit the assignment.
## 1
## The pacing of when they answer problems
## 1
## The password is annoying
## 1
## The problems were usually very base level and not as challenging as exam questions or homework assignments, but the practice still helped.
## 1
## The professor almost always arrived late, and once he arrived students still had to wait quite a while for him to set up and give the code and assignment before they could even start working on the problems.
## 1
## The professor and LAs were not helpful at all nor were very nice so I wish to have a different instructor who can help me when needed.
## 1
## The professor was kinda hard to understand because of his accent.
## 1
## the questions are often unrelated. The people who explained the problems never did so well.
## 1
## The questions should be more conceptual so that we can better understand the theories.
## 1
## The questions were harder then the exam questions so most of the time I couldn't solve them by myself.
## 1
## The recitation I attended, which was held on Wednesdays in Zimmer Auditorium at 3:35, felt really unorganized. It would help a lot if the instructors for recitation felt more structured. Possibly just getting recitation started a bit earlier and more on time would help as it felt it took a long time to even get the access code announced.
## 1
## The recitation session are good as is in my opinion, they personally helped me understand what we learned the previous week much more.
## 1
## The recitation sessions are great and I don't have any complaints.
## 1
## The recitation sessions are helpful and there aren't many changes I would make.
## 1
## The Recitation sessions needed more TAs and less students. I often felt I couldn't get my questions answered in time with the looming end of class deadline to turn in my work.
## 1
## The recitation sessions were overall helpful to me in terms of studying chemistry
## 1
## The size of the class, wish it was smaller and more individualized
## 1
## The ta’s
## 1
## The TAs during my recitation were terrible.
## 1
## The time of day and split it up so that it is smaller groups of people. It will be easier to ask questions and understand the content.
## 1
## The time of the class, it is too late in the day, in my opinion.
## 1
## The time they happen and the length.
## 1
## The time! It is pretty late and at an inconvenient time. Also, I wouldn't make attendance mandatory (not assignments, just being in person!)
## 1
## The timing was very inconvenient for someone who commutes to and from school (traffic is really bad in the afternoon). The t class also seems unnecessary and a lot of time is spent waiting for the class to actually start. It would be more convenient (for me at least) to have the recitation answer keys available online so I can do it at my own pace.
## 1
## The wait time before we start the next question.
## 1
## The waiting period between lecture and recitation.
## 1
## Them being required
## 1
## There is not really anything I would change
## 1
## There is nothing I can think of.
## 1
## there is nothing i would change
## 1
## There is nothing i would change
## 1
## There is nothing I would change about recitation.
## 1
## There is nothing I would change about the Recitation sessions.
## 1
## There is nothing that comes to mind in terms of changes.
## 1
## There is nothing that I would recommend to change the recitation sessions.
## 1
## There is really nothing that needs to be changed except making it clear if the password for the quiz is capitalized or not!
## 1
## There isn't anything I would want to change.
## 1
## There isn't much I would change
## 1
## there needs to be more TAs walking around I feel like there are never any that are near me that would help
## 1
## There were so many people in recitation and only so many TA’s so sometimes it felt like a burden to ask for help.
## 1
## These sessions were great
## 1
## They actually help you and shouldn't be mandatory if your the only one doing the work
## 1
## They are long and annoying to go to
## 1
## They are so dumb. They don't help. If you can't study on your own then you shouldn't pass
## 1
## They become optional if you get an A on the exams
## 1
## They do a terrible job explaining the problems and go way too fast before there's time to process the answer or even ask questions. The environment in the class is not good because no one wants to be there to learn they are just in a hurry to get out as do I because the class does not help. My recommendation would be to teach the people running the recitation how to teach and take their time to really help us understand. There job is to help us but it seems they are just as a hurry to get out as we are
## 1
## They don’t actually feel all that helpful. They aren’t bad or anything, but I just feel bored.
## 1
## they don't give us much time to work on the problems then rush through the explanation
## 1
## They feel very slow, they explain the questions twenty minutes after I already finished them so I have often already left.
## 1
## They need to make it online option
## 1
## they should be optional. there are a lot of times i don't need to attend them and I commute so a lot of times I do not show up and just let it hurt my grade.
## 1
## They should explain the answers more thoroughly because I feel like they were always rushed and just gave the answer, rather than explaining it.
## 1
## they suck. idk
## 1
## They were good how they are
## 1
## They were too particular in the way they graded and took points off for minor differences in work shown.
## 1
## They work a little quicker because some of the sessions took too long and I had to submit the assignment in the last minute.
## 1
## To be able to see work before class to know what to prep for.
## 1
## to be less busy work and more specified problems. I feel some of the questions don't relate to what will be on the quiz by having to write explanations which we do not do on the tests. Also, professors that can speak English more clearly. Sometimes it's very difficult to understand the TAs and professors.
## 1
## to have a little bit more explaining
## 1
## To improve Recitation sessions, it would be beneficial to limit the number of participants to around 30 students. This smaller group size would allow for more personalized attention, making it easier for students to ask questions and receive the help they need. In large sessions with around 150 students, the ability to seek assistance from the single teacher and three TAs becomes quite limited, preventing effective interaction and support.
## 1
## To start explaining each problem sooner so there more time for questions
## 1
## Uhhhh probably the effort by TA's
## 1
## Um no
## 1
## Understanding the problems/better explanations
## 1
## Uploaded solved solutions.
## 1
## Utilizing time more to go over questions. Sometimes one question is elaborated on for too long, leaving less time for other questions.
## 1
## Was not helpful for me.
## 1
## waste of time
## 1
## We couldn’t start working on the assignments until we got the code and it took forever to get the code.
## 1
## We didn't have it. N/A
## 1
## When they explain the questions take ita little slower so we can understand the question better.
## 1
## Working on the questions as a class faster cause I finish and am waiting for a while
## 1
## would change anything.
## 1
## Would not change anything.
## 1
## x
## 1
## yeah
## 1
## You should be able to attend virtually if you want to.
