Structured Analysis

Loudness of Albums over the years

The average loudness of music has increased over the year due to loudness war, with more recent albums being louder compared to older ones. Over the years music has gotten significantly louder, but I don’t think that will be the cause for Mariah Carey because Mariah’s music genre is closer to R&B which doesn’t tend to be loud but more soft .

Results

As expected Mariah’s album has had a decrease in loudness over the years with not a single album being in the positives. This might be due to her genre or might be because of the fact that she is getting older.

Energy of Christmas Albums to Other Albums

As mentioned before Mariah is known more by her Christmas album than her other albums, so i want to see if the other Albums would be just has god as her Christmas album by using the energy column

Results

Although Christmas albums seems to have higher energy, the mean of both seems to be around same so it might worth it to check out albums other than her Christmas themed ones.

Tempo Shift

With the increase in tempo speed in the music industry over the years would Mariah’s older Christmas song have more tempo compared to its counterpart

Results

Shocking! I was expecting the Younger Albums to have a higher tempo, but this a very interesting discovery.

Reviewer’s Score

Although Mariah Carey is the undefeated queen of Christmas songs, she might have someone challenging her for her throne. In 2013 Ariana Grande released an album named “Christmas Kisses” which was at the top of the chart for weeks, in 2015 she released another banger “Christmas & Chill” which also blew up (not as well as christmas kisses). This begs the question which album is better Ariana Grande Christmas kisses or Mariah Carey Merry Christmas Album

To answer this we are going to be looking at https://www.albumoftheyear.org/ website which contains the reviews of albums over the years.

Results

Wow, that is surprising Ariana Grande having a higher average score is an interesting result.

Sentimental Analysis

Let’s have a look at the sentiments seen in the comment section of each artist’s album.

Posivity Vs Negativity

Let’s see which artist has the highest sentimental positive score

Results

Mariah Carey had significantly more positive result than Ariana Grande

User Reviews over the two different Albums

Since Mariah Carey’s album had a lower score compared to Ariana grande I’m expecting more negative reviews from Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas Album than Ariana Grande’s Christmass Kisses

Results

Another shocking result! Ariana Grande had less negative coments than Mariah Carey. This could be due to small sample size

Future Analysis

I have a couple of future analysis planned:

  1. Increasing Sample Size of the data: More sample size better results?

  2. Top Christmas Song from each album (Santa Tell Me, Merry Christmas)

Conclusion

With Christmas fast approaching I hope this page was useful in helping pick which artist to listen to during this Festive Season. Merry Christmas
