En este laboratorio, las/los estudiantes deberán utilizar sus conocimientos adquiridos en análisis exploratorio de datos espaciales, para implementar modelos de regresión lineales espaciales. De esta forma, los elementos que consideraremos para la realización de este laboratorio son:

El siguiente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar la elección escolar en la comuna de Antofagasta, Chile. En la actualidad, la elección de escuelas está regulada por el Sistema de Admisión Escolar (SAE). En este sistema, las familias declaran un ranking por sus preferencias escolares, revelando sus preferencias. En adición, las familias pueden ampliar su rango de elección de escuelas, considerando no solo escuelas públicas, sino también, escuelas semi-privadas.
De acuerdo a este nuevo escenario de elección escolar, el objetivo de este análisis es explorar si las familias escogen escuelas cercanas a sus residencias o aprovechan las ventajas del sistema escogiendo escuelas que antes no podían escoger, lejanas a sus lugares de residencia. También, el análisis busca explorar si las características de los lugares de residencia de las familias determina su elección escolar, determinando su disposición a salir o no de sus barrios en búsqueda de nuevas oportunidades educativas.
Para dar cuenta de la elección escolar, para este análisis se utiliza la distancia (en kilómetros) desde el hogar de la familia hasta la escuela escogida en primera preferencia en el ranking declarado en el SAE. La distancia representa el costo de oportunidad de conmutar dentro de la ciudad. La distribución espacial se representa en el siguiente mapa:

Para comenzar con el análisis, primero calcularemos un modelo de regresión lineal a través de OLS. De esta forma, el modelo que construiremos estará determinado por:
\[ \begin{align*} y=X \beta +\epsilon \end{align*} \] Donde la variable dependiente \(y\) será la distancia a la primera preferencia escolar, mientras que las variables explicativas representarán la información sobre las características socioeconómicas de las familias, e información sobre las características del barrio donde se ubican las familias. Antes de verificar la existencia autocorrelación espacial, es necesario dar cuenta de si los supuestos de la regresión lineal se cumplen. Por ejemplo, es necesario comprobar si los errores se distribuyen normalmente, o si nuestros errores son homocedásticos. Recuerde que no cumplir con los supuestos, puede afectar las pruebas estadísticas entregando resultados poco confiables. Una consecuencia de este problema es malinterpretar los resultados obtenidos.

Otra opción que debemos analizar es que el modelo presente heterogeneidad espacial. La heterogeneidad espacial se refiere a la variabilidad sistemática de las características, relaciones o procesos en función de la ubicación geográfica. En términos simples, implica que las relaciones entre las variables no son uniformes en el espacio, sino que cambian dependiendo de la región o área considerada.
Una forma de dar cuenta de la heterogeneidad espacial es a través de un contraste de hipótesis. Por ejemplo, el test de chow nos permite evaluar si un modelo con regiones combinadas es significativamente diferente de modelos separados por región. Es decir, para llevar a cabo este análisis es necesario dividir los datos en subregiones y estimar modelos separados para cada región. Diferencias significativas en los coeficientes pueden indicar heterogeneidad espacial.
