About AI

Research Informatics helps researchers turn data into knowledge. We enable research by providing intuitive tools for discovering and delivering data to researchers, help them to capture data from studies, empower them to perform research using electronic medical records and connect them to data at other institutions. Research Informatics provides support across the entire research lifecycle, from planning and grant development to research dissemination and data archiving.

HERON

HERON

HERON is an integrated clinical data repository with millions of electronic medical records (EMR) records of patient who agree to be contacted for research, socioeconomic data, death data, clinical notes and more. KUMC researchers can build a study cohort with the HERON software and request contact information for patients meeting the criteria for a study who have agreed to be contacted for research or request datasets for retrospective studies.

Green HERON

Green HERON

Green HERON is a highly protected health data analytic space where approved users can work with de-identified electronic medical records. It provides an important tool to work with external partners on research. The analytics space offers a rich set of tools, such as R, SAS, and Python, although others can be added on request.

REDCAp

REDCAp

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) enables rapid project development and provides users with advanced functionality, complete autonomy and control of a project and direct exports to common statistical packages. REDCap surveys and databases are HIPAA compliant and include audit trails.

C3OD

C3OD

C3OD merges data from the electronic medical record, tumor registry, bio-specimen, and data registry, and allows querying through a single unified platform. By centralizing access and maintaining appropriate controls, C3OD allows researchers to obtain detailed information more rapidly about each patient in order to accelerate eligibility screening.

GeoMarker

GeoMarker

According to Children's Mercy Hospital, "GeoMarker is a HIPAA-compliant web application for geocoding addresses. GeoMarker can be used to get the point location (latitude and longitude) for a list of addresses (batch geocoding), aggregate census geographic identifiers, determine drive time to pediatric care centers, determine neighborhood indicators, and obtain composite Area Deprivation Index score for geocoded addresses".

COSMOS

COSMOS

As described by Cosmos by Epic, "Cosmos is a dataset created in collaboration with a community of health systems using Epic and is designed to improve patient care. By combining their data, participating organizations and Epic can make new discoveries and advance medicine. Cosmos also powers tools at the point of care, providing insights to clinicians that are tailored to the patient in front of them."

Prepare Data by streamlining data science workflows and models with quick access to clean and reliable data. Explore data with interactive visualizations and confidently and securely share code with coauthoring, commenting, automatic versioning, Git integrations, and role-based access controls. Automate experiment tracking and governance and empower your machine learning teams to access, explore, and prepare any type of data at any scale. Learn More

All data is stored in our secure HIPAA-compliant cloud storage. Download clean data in universal formats like csv with your data ready for analysis. We have also implemented the Electronic Lab Note book A secure, cloud based collaborative platform for documentation, organization, shareability and security of your scientific research and data. The digital tool will accelerate research and allow researchers to enjoy the benefits of a centralized, paperless data storage environment. It also aids in lab management, protects Intellectual Property (IP), and offers data management and tracking. At no cost to users' notebooks owned by someone at KUMC and TUKHS may be shared with staff at other institutions of higher education. Learn More

Accelerate your data and AI initiatives with a single point of access for data exploration. Securely access data from other computing platforms using open interfaces, with consistent permissions managed in one place. Automate monitoring, diagnose errors, and uphold data and ML model quality.

The DRP at KUMC is the collective name for our HIPAA-compliant, research cloud infrastructure, which includes a centralized research data lakehouse, built on Databricks, to enable big data handling with Apache Spark and robust performance with Delta Lake. High performance computing, including GPU clusters is available from Microsoft Azure and can be scaled on demand, and machine learning lifecycle management is available from MLFlow. Dedicated research data management staff are available to help ingest new data into the environment, who use a customized version of Data Basin to facilitate and speed complex data ingestion into the lakehouse. Analytics and model building can be performed in Databricks, in Azure, or in the user's on-prem environment.

Research Informatics Group has collaborated with Databricks to provide KUMC and TUKHS Researchers the tools necessary to perform thier work, Each one of our tools is unique and funding may be required depending on which service you request, please contact our dataconcierge@kumc.edu for more questions about custom designs and project assistance.
