Summary

What can we learn from the data?

  • It can be observed from the data, 2024 is the highest number in offences since 2015, which may lead many to think violence is out of control.
  • However, the population in Victoria also increased over time and is the largest since 2015.
  • The offence rate per 100k population, however, is only the 5th since 2015, followed closely by 2019 and 2018 as can be observed from the previous slide.

Conclusion

  • Despite not being the best year in terms of offence numbers per rate of 100k population, the crime is not at the worst time since 2015.
  • There’s much that can be done to improve the current scenario, however the data shows there have been other years where the offences where proportionally higher.
