Selecting subsetting and ordering

Understand the logic of R

One of the hardest things to do is to select part of a dataframe(df) via a: - logic operator - a column - a row - a factor…

They are many ways to do it and several :: to do it (i.e tidyverse) Lets take an example

load the dataset mtcars form base::

The problem some are and must be treated as factor: i.e cylinder albeit number4,6,8 it is a nomimal classifier variables so that carb.

for example we want to know the influence of cylinder on mile per gallons

boxplot(mtcars$mpg)#ok but dosent tell you about 3 classes cylinder

boxplot(mtcars$mpg~factor(mtcars$cyl),col=c(2,3,4))# a dot on 8 cylinder is an outlier obs on that class

##Exam question:explain why we an an outlier in boxplot 2 and not in 1?

Selecting by a factor

One must think like are: Does it make sense to select a column via a 2nd column whatever the factor is? Or a numeric column for a numeric column?

Just think of WHAT YOU WANT:

Lets take a concrete example:

I want to select all data with cylinder=8

: I want to select all line of my df with cylinder column==8

Let try step by step and with error to show you the way of R act:

Sort a data frame or a subset of df

Lets take AAA a subset of mtcars with 8 cylinders car only . Try to sort from increasing mpg in that subset:

##I have created a vector of order according mpg then apply to the df:
