Crimes Committed

Australia has a system where they class each crime into a certain division labelled A through to F. These include:

  • Division A: Crimes against the person
  • Division B: Property and Deception Offences
  • Division C: Drug Offences
  • Division D: Public Order and Security Offences
  • Division E: Justice Procedure Offences
  • Division F: Other Offences

Crimes per Division

This graph demonstrates the amount of crimes committed in each division in the year of 2023 alone.

Further look into Crimes per Division

As can be seen, Division B, property and deception offences are the majority of the offences committed in the year of 2023.

Now to see all of the different years’ crimes committed per division will show if this trend continues.

Divisions for all years

This graph is basically exactly the same as the previous one, showing that there’s a distinct trend of Division B taking up majority of cases.

Subdivisions

To get more specific, we can delve deeper into the more individual crimes within Division B to see which subdivision they fall into.

The subdivisions of Division B include:

  • B10 Arson
  • B20 Property damage
  • B30 Burglary/Break and Enter
  • B40 Theft
  • B50 Deception
  • B60 Bribery

Subdivisions of Division B

This graph shows an obvious majority for B40, which is the subdivision for theft. It’s to be noted that the count of offences is divided by 100, not by 1000 like the previous 2 graphs.

Subgroups

As can be seen in the previous graph, most of the other subdivisions came nowhere close to having the amount of offences B40 did. Subdivision B60 for bribery had an almost negligible amount of offences committed compared to the other subdivisions.

To figure out the main offence out of subdivision B40, we must look at the subgroups. The subgroups for subdivision B40 are:

  • B41 Motor Vehicle Theft
  • B42 Steal from a Motor Vehicle
  • B43 Steal from a Retail Store
  • B44 Theft of a bicycle
  • B45 Receiving or Handling Stolen Goods
  • B46 Fare Evasion
  • B49 Other Theft

Subgroups of Division B40

It can be concluded that majority of crimes with subdivision B40, subgroups B42, stealing from a moto vehicle, and B49, other theft, are the main contributors to the offences committed. Offence count is divided by 100.
