Introduction

A major driver of world economic growth, the tourism sector supports infrastructure development, boosts GDP, and generates employment. It covers travel, lodging, and entertainment among other industries that together support local businesses and international ties. For many nations, particularly developing ones, foreign exchange and income come mostly from tourism. Beyond only its financial influence, tourism encourages cultural interaction by letting visitors experience many customs and so strengthens the world community. Nonetheless, the sector deals with sustainability issues, which emphasises the need of responsible behaviour to safeguard natural resources for next generations.

Chart 1

Chart 1 presents an interactive choropleth map showing, for the year 2022, the number of international visitor departures per 1,000 people across many countries. This visual aids in the observation of the worldwide outbound tourism activity, so enabling us to compare the frequency of travel among citizens of every nation. By concentrating on this statistic, the chart offers information on the degree of outbound tourism in every nation, so reflecting elements of cultural preferences for foreign travel, travel accessibility, and economic stability.

Chart 2 aims to show, from 2015 to 2022, trends in inbound tourist arrivals over time for a few chosen countries—Tunisia, Norway, Chile, and Nepal). The interactive line graph will let one see trends and fluctuations in the number of visitors to these nations, so providing understanding of how national tourism policies, seasonal travel, and world events might affect inbound tourism rates. By analysing these patterns, the chart clarifies which nations have seen increase or decrease in tourism and offers a foundation for knowledge of the elements behind these developments.
