Exploring the Status of Recent Crime in Victoria

Introduction

Public safety is one of the most important and ongoing issues for citizens.
The study of crime data is a necessary and effective tool for future policy making.
This report aims to examine the current situation of crime in Victoria and to identify any specific findings for further research.

Overview-2024 Crime Distribution in Victoria

- A criminal incident is a criminal case that may include multiple offences, alleged offenders and/or victims.

Camparsion of Offences by Categories in Victoria

- Property and deception offences account for the largest proportion of the top 9 areas of crime recording.

Further Exploration of overall Property and Deception Offences in Victoria by Categories

- Theft is the most serious issue among all Property and deception offences.

Age Group of Overall Victims in Victoria

- The authority should pay more attention to teenagers and the elderly.

Change of Total Family Incidents Recorded by Quarter in Victoria

- The total family incidents show the overall increase in 2024.
- It has shown a consecutive increase since 2022.

Conclusion

With the help of a variety of data visualisation tools, we were able to gain some insights i into the occurrence of crime across suburbs and categories.
In addition, we discovered the age distribution of victims and the trend in family incidents.
These would provide policymakers with insights into the appropriate allocation of crime prevention resources.
