Announcements

1 - Wednesday office hours this week will be by Microsoft Teams or Google Meet

    - I will post the Google Meet link in GroupMe and Canvas
    - Teams will require setting an appointment
    

2 - I will check GroupMe periodically during office hours and will have it open when not meeting one-on-one with someone

Plan for Rest of Semester

  • You should have completed all Inquizitive assignments from We the People - Chapters 1 through 10

  • We will spend at least part of one class day after November 5, revisiting federal government ideas in light of the current election

  • The rest of the semester we will work in Governing Texas

  • Recommended Governing Texas Schedule

      - Chapter 1 - Do by November November 3
      - Chapter 2 - by November 10
      - Chapter 3 - by November 17 
      - Chapters 4 - by November 24
      - Hard deadline for everything is November 26

Plan for Rest of Semester

  • Deadline to drop with a W is November 20, don’t wait if you need to drop

  • If your Total Grade is 50 or below, please consider dropping this week or soon

  • Estimating your grade if you missed Exam 1:

      - Add 0.3 times your Exam 2 percentage for an estimate (but you must do that well on the Final, too)
  • If you missed Exam 1 and 2 - drop or study 12 hrs a week starting now

  • Grade questions: office hours soon

Plan for Rest of Semester

  • 3 class weeks left

      - November 20 - Last day of class, short Final Exam review
      - November 20 - Final Exam Extra Credit, in class only
      - November 25 and 26 - Final Exam
      - November 25 - All late work and extra credit due
      - I will finish grades shortly after Thanksgiving break

Final Exam

  • In CASA or the Dart Center, November 25th and 26th

  • In person

  • No exceptions, no makeups, no excuses accepted

      - Extreme, very well documented medical emergency might get an incomplete for the semester if 85% of work including taking both Exam 1 and Exam 2 are completed. All bureaucratic burden of documentation will fall on the student.

  • In CASA, in person, on campus

  • No makeups

  • 57 questions 70 minutes

      - same format as Exam 1 and Exam 2
      - 3 points per question
      - 57 questions
      - 171 points possible 

Final Exam Content (subject to minor change)

  • Will be in Practice Exam:

      - 17 questions each from Exam 1 and Exam 2 Chapters and lectures
      - 17 questions from Unit 3 (Texas) Chapters
      - 7 Second Chance questions from Exams 1 and 2 - topics and definitions will be posted in Canvas
      - Unit 1 to 3 questions will be in practice exam including Second Chance questions
  • Will be posted in Canvas without answers for study:

      - 10 Exam 1 Lecture Questions - will be posted in Canvas without answers
      - 6 current Texas politics questions from Unit 3 Lectures - will be posted in Canvas without answers

Final Exam

  • Unit 3 Lecture questions will not be surprises: For example, I might be talking about an action taken by the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, and say, “What is the name of the Governor of Texas? You should know that for the exam!”
  • Second Chance or “I know it now” questions will be important questions widely missed on Exams 1 and 2.
  • Second Chance questions will be similar to the Extra Credit Questions
