Columbus Weather

Introduction

NOAA data for Columbus, Ohio from 2010-2018 collected at John Glenn International Airport

Section 1

The following boxplots display the maximum and minimum daily temperatures for each month for each year from 2010-2018. The red dots correspond to the individual daily maximum temperatures, and the blue dots correspond to the individual daily minimum temperatures. The box plots allow us to see the maximum and minimum temperatures for each corresponding graph. We can also see where most of the data points lie by looking at the box plot without considering the individual points. The middle 50% of the data for each month is included in the white rectangles, while the upper 25% of the data is included between the top end of the rectangle and the top bar and the lower 25% is included in the bottom end of the rectangle and the bottom bar.

Section 2

The table included below shows the average maximum and minimum temperatures for each of the months from 2010-2018 as well as giving us the standard deviation, or how much the data varies from the mean. Looking at this table we are able to answer questions like: “Which month typically sees more variation from the mean in maximum and minimum temperatures for the years 2010 to 2018?” or “How does the average maximum and minimum temperature vary from month to month from 2010 to 2018?”.

**What are the graphs Using the table above, that includes the average maximum and minimum temperatures for each month as well as the standard deviation for each, the following graphs were produced. Looking at the graphs, Month 1 and Month 12 see lower temperatures in both graphs and the greater average high temperatures and average low temperatures are seen during Month 7.

Section 4

The following graph shares the high temperatures recorded each day during April 2018. The daily high typically fell between 50 and 60 degrees fahrenheit, but there was a spike near the middle of the month where the daily high was low and then jumped to almost 80 degrees before falling back down to a high of 40 degrees.
