Task 1:Simulate data for 40 students’ time spent on a learning management system (LMS) over 16 weeks. The data will represent the number of hours each student spends on the LMS each week. Part 2: Descriptive Analytics & Visualization
Descriptive Analytics
Now that we have our dataset, let’s conduct some basic analytics to better understand our data.
Task 2: Calculate summary statistics for each week and store them in a new object. Use the summary() function followed by (data2[, -1]) to analyze your dataset.

[The insight that I gained is from week 1 to week 16 all the information obtained is the same. We see the length of each week is 40, class is none, and the mode is represented by the word numeric.]
Task 3: Calculate the all students’ average time spent per week. Use colMeans() function.

Visualizing data helps to better understand and communicate your findings. Let’s start with some basic visualizations.
Boxplot of Average Time Spent Per Week
Task 6: Create a boxplot to visualize the distribution of time spent per week using ‘average_time_table’.
However, we first need to calculate the average time spent per week.

Question: What differences do you notice between the boxplot and the bar plot? Explain as much as you can.
[One major difference that I noticed is the average time spent is documented differently. In the boxplot graph the average time spent goes by hours counting by ones - 12, 13, and 14. In the bar graph, it goes by hours counting by 5’s- 0, 5, 10, and 15. I do think the bar graph is easier to read than the boxplot graph. It is more straightfoward and aesthetically pleasing. I do think you would be more accurate if you were looking at the boxplot because the increments are closer together. There will not be as much estimation that you will have to make compared to the bar plot whose increments are more wide spread.]
Question: Question: What changes did you make to the visualization? Why?
[I changed a few different things. I tried devising a different title name, but the one that I came up with, I did not like. It was to large for the space and looked un-proportional. I also changed the color of the graph multiple times. This was fun to me because the color of the graph can set the tone for the gathered information and display an aesthetic appeal. The last thing that I did was increase the size of the title from 18 to 20. All of these factors play an intricate part in visualizing your work for yourself and others.]
Task 8: Create a bar plot to visualize the mean time spent across 16 weeks for each student from data2. This time we use data2, not average_time_table, because the variables & values that we want to use to create the bar plot is in the data2.

Question: Which plot do you find more insightful, the bar plot, box plot, or histogram? Why?
[I like the bar plot and the histogram the best. For the histogram, I like how the frequency displays the number of students under each category of time spent in hours each week. This visual helps identify how many students fell under each bracket of the mean hours spent. Example: almost 20 students spend 13 hours on the assignment. The histogram produces a quick way to identify the amount of students which fell under each mean of time. I like the bar plot because it produces individualized information from student 1 to student 40. Instead of having to estimate the amount of time a student spent, like in the histogram, we see in the bar plot to the minute of the hour that each student spent on the assignment. It also help us differentiate between the students that took a longer time than others. We could pull students from this graph based off the highest mean and lowest mean to compare their work and amount of time dedicated to the assignment. This would be useful information to compare because we could identify areas that students are struggling or may not be taking enough time on within the assignment.]

[The analytics result is kinda all over the place. We do not see a continuous tend of information from week to week. The difference between the colors does help to distinguish similarities and differences between the time spent.]

Question: Pick 3-6 students you are particularly interested in comparing. Update the R code above (Task 11 chunk) with your selected students. What insights do you gain from this more focused analysis?
[Through this more focused analysis based of 5 students compared to 40, we can make a better comparison and recognize trends between students. For the group of students that I selected, I can see that during week 13 these students almost produced a similar amount of time spent on the assignment. We are narrowing the data down to individualize each students information which in turn displays precise, adequate information compared to trying to look at every student at once. This way, we can follow along better. With this approach also, we could compare students based off the general mean from low, medium, and high to make a general comparison for the entire group.]
Part 3: Predictive Analytics and Visualization
Visualize and Analyze Relationships Between Variables
Now, let’s explore relationships between variables in our dataset data (we used this in the first module). For example, you may want to see if there is a relationship between the time spent on the LMS (TimeSpent_hours) and students’ final grades (FinalGradeCEMS).

[Insight that I can draw based on the relationship between time spent and final grades is that the more time that a student spends on an assignment; the student will get a better grade. We can see the correlation between these two variables based of student work and the amount of time that each students spends on the assignment.]
Render & Submit
Congratulations, you’ve completed the second module!
To receive full score, you will need to render this document and publish via a method such as: Quarto Pub, Posit Cloud, RPubs , GitHub Pages, or other methods. Once you have shared a link to you published document with me and I have reviewed your work, you will be officially done with the current module.
Complete the following steps to submit your work for review by:
First, change the name of the author: in the YAML header at the very top of this document to your name. The YAML header controls the style and feel for knitted document but doesn’t actually display in the final output.
Next, click the “Render” button in the toolbar above to “render” your R Markdown document to a HTML file that will be saved in your R Project folder. You should see a formatted webpage appear in your Viewer tab in the lower right pan or in a new browser window. Let me know if you run into any issues with rendering.
