Who is Andres Rivera?

Hello! My name is Andres Rivera and I am currently a senior at The University of Texas San Antonio, majoring in Business Analytics and minoring Information Systems.
I was born and raised in San Antonio and grew up playing soccer but as of recently I have made the transition to playing Ultimate Frisbee with the community and for UTSA Club.
I am the oldest of 3 where my sister is a Junior at St.Mary’s University and my brother is in 8th grade.
Academic Background
- Attended Butler University for my first 2 years majoring in Finance
- Transferred to UTSA and changed my major to Business Analytics with the expectation of graduating in Spring 2025
Professional Background
I have had 2 internships with Core4ce, a government contracting company where I focused on the data science route.
In the summer of 2023 I worked on creating a program that could analyze resumes without human intervention and match accordingly the best candidates to the job description. After giving a list of the top 5 candidates, the recruiters would go in and find the viable option based on experience, education, certifications, etc…
This past summer I worked on creating a knowledge management system where we could organize all the company data. More specifically for proposals writing as information was scattered across platforms and the company wanted to have it all centralized to make it easier for the growth team.
Experience with R and Data Mining
I have only worked with R in a class setting with two different classes
- MS 3083 Data Management for Business Analytics
- STA 4233 Into-Program & Data Management in R
With these two classes under my belt I would say I have an intermediate understanding but with any language you can always improve.
Experience with Other Analytical Software
I am familiar mostly with Python, MySQL, along with R. With other applications I have worked with them a little bit but would like to learn more:
- Tableau
- SAS Enterprise Guide
- Microsoft Suite
- Neo4j
- MongoDB
