About Me

Bio:

Hi! My name is Sam Evrard and I am third year student originally from Cleveland, but moved to Columbus a few years back. I currently work for the UC football team during the fall as a little side gig. It has introduced me to analytics in a whole new sense.

Academic Background:

  • Accounting and Real Estate Double Major
  • Involved in UC Real Estate Association (UCREA)

Professional Background:

As a student focused on a career in accounting, I have completed 3 interships at different companies. I plan on obtaining my Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license post-grad and pursuing a career in federal tax consulting. Two of my internships have been in public accounting for Cherry Bekaert and RSM US LLP. My other internship was in industry, for a company called Wilson Dow Group. Next summer, I will be completing another tax internship for Ernst & Young.

Why Data Mining?

I hope to learn R and be able to apply it to eventually apply the skills for a future career in accounting. One may wonder why an accountant would use R, but, in fact, accountants today are using data analytics to produce better predictions and decisions for the business. I hope to come away with a general understanding of code and more importantly, how continue my learning in R.

Experience with R:

I am new to R. One of my coworkers for the UC football team has recently taken the position as head of football analytics to which I have been amazed by the work he is able to do. It is interesting to see how he is able to transform data into visualizations for coaches and see them implement those analytics into gameplan. I have general knowledge about Python but am still learning how to understand coding language. Most of the analytic software that I have learned about has been new to me.
