Introduction

My name is Henry Gruber and I am a 4th year business student who is majoring in Information Systems and getting a BANA certificate. I am born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I pretty much always knew I wanted to go to UC since both of my older sibling went out of town but that didn’t interest me as much because I wanted to stay around family. Also, most of my closest high school friends also were going to UC.

Professional Background

My only ‘internship’ I have had was with the Dayton Dragons baseball team in the summer of 2023. My position was Trackman Operator and Video Assistant. It was a very cool experience to get an idea of what it is like to work in baseball. I became more familiar with the technology that is used in the industry, especially Trackman and Hawkeye.

During the school year, I am a bartender at a local restaurant.

Experience with R

Coming into this class I have no previous experience using R. I am excited to learn more about it though. I always am seeing R in the job descriptions of postings that interest me so this class will be very beneficial for me.

This first week using R was so interesting to me so I ordered a book written by Eric Eager called Football Analytics with Python and R. I have already started reading it and following along on R especially because football season is just now starting. Combining what I learn in this class with my sports knowledge is something I want to explore during my free time.

Experience with other analytic software

As an IS major, I have taken classes using Visual Studio. Last spring I took a class on web development using .net, C#, html, CSS, etc. Currently, I am a similar class but using python this time. I am also in database design and tools this semester which covers stuff like SQL, Oracle, etc.
