My name is Jack DeLaet, and I am in the MS BANA program at the University of Cincinnati. I grew up in New York, but moved to Cincinnati a few years ago. I love sports and am hoping to learn more about data analytics in sports and the role they play in guiding team strategy and direction.
I graduated in May from Miami University with a BS in business having majored in finance and business economics. I also had minors in sport leadership and management as well as sport analytics.
I currently work part time with Pro Football Focus, a company focused on utilizing advanced analytics to grade players and teams in professional and college football based on their performance. Previously, I did some work with the Miami University athletics department in various roles and capacities, and I also interned for the Cincinnati Cyclones for a season as a ticket sales representative.
I have some prior exposure to R from previous classes I completed while pursuing my undergraduate degree. Last semester, I conducted a project that aimed to analyze the impact of recent rule changes implemented in Major League Baseball. While I feel somewhat comfortable in R, I have only utilized it in academic settings thus far, and am looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the program as well as utilizing it in new settings.
I have additional experience through my undergraduate education as well as various other projects in SQL and Tableau. I feel pretty comfortable with using Tableau, although my usage of SQL is probably a bit rusty at this point and I haven’t utilized it outside of academia to this point. I also have limited exposure in Python, and am hoping to expand upon my knowledge of all these tools while enrolled at UC.
