Description:
This dataset is only a small portion of a larger dataset on global smoking prevalence from 1982-2012. This specific dataset I pulled is the prevalence of smoking in the U.S. organized by age intervals. One thing I find interesting about this data is the prevalence of smokers age 10-14 throughout the years, since this is a young age to begin smoking. I noticed that the percentage of smokers in this age range increased before it decreased. It reached 12.1% in 1997 before it finally started to decrease. Then by the 2010’s, the percentage of aged 10-14 smokers decreased to 0.4%. So, I am curious to what happened in the 90’s which caused this increase and what might have happened afterwards which caused such a decline in smoking.

Description: The following table is more data on smoking from 1980-2012 in the USA. It shows the number of smokers of all ages over the years. There is clearly a decline in the percentage of total smokers here over the years when the total U.S. population increase is taken into account. I am assuming this is due to the population becoming better informed about the health risks of smoking.
