Introduction to Me!

Hi, I’m Frank Myers. I have lived in Ohio most of my adult life and I received my B.S. in Material Science and Engineer for The Ohio State University in 2013. I have worked at a variety of steel processing plants as a Metallurgical Engineer over the last decade. Most of my processing career has been in the heat treating of steels and maintenance of heat-treating equipment. Currently, I work as a Research Engineer for Cleveland Cliffs inc. working on the development of non-grain-oriented electrical steels.

I have very little experiment programming in R. This is my first time and R seems to be fussy about something and not fussy about others. I do like R so far, and I think it will have wide applications in my current working life as I go through the MS BANA program at UC. I expect R to have functionally that my current software(JMP) that I’m using does not have.

I have other experience with Python, JMP, SQL (Microsoft and Oracle), Microsoft Excel, and ThermoCalc (Material Phase Diagrams). I am very familiar with building and retrieving data from a SQL server and I use SQL to perform data collection and cleaning before I feed that data into JMP. I regularly use JMP to build linear/partial least squares regressions and explore data. I have not used more complex models in JMP like support vector machines because the predictability does not increase enough for the lost in interpretability.
