How Does Music Affect Stress Levels?

When people are stressed, they tend to listen to music in order to lower their stress levels. But how much does music actually lower stress? For this study, we had participants read a story while listening to two different genres of music and at two different volumes to find out the effect they have on stress.

Discussion

  • One limitation of the study is that people might be biased towards certain types of music when making their choices
  • One strength of the study is that it’s unique from others by focusing on both music an volume.
  • One implication of the study is that loud rock music causes more stress than soft, calm music.

Stress is calmed through calm music

  • If you want to calm the stress in your life, listen to calming music.
