Working Paper 1 - Labor Flow: Empirical Evidence in Vietnam

Labor flow in Vietnam

version 1 in R:
we carry out this working paper using tidyverse, sf, tmap and tmaptools packages.

Overview

In this paper, we aim to present the maps that interpret the labor flow in Vietnam.

The dataset is collected from Vietnam Labor Survey and Vietnam General Statistic Office in 2020. In this dataset, we focus on immigration and emigration rates at provincial level. In addition, we use the minimum wage and mean wage to illustrate spatial wage difference.

Summary

Mekong delta has a dramatic rate of emigrant labor, with most provinces in that region having a higher than average emigrant rate. There is no obvious evidence that wage differences drive the labor flow in Vietnam.

Hochiminh city and Binh Duong province are two hot-spot for migrant labor.

Discussion

What do you think about the labor flow in Vietnam? What are the determinants of labor flow in Vietnam?
