Weekday AADT from Replica (calculated from the hourly Replica AADT tables) are provided below.
Replica notes:
Replica provides an hourly auto volume profile for a “typical week“ in a given year for almost all major roads. For FRC 1 and 2 roads, Replica also provides single-truck volume and combination truck volume.
Replica’s hourly auto volume profile is based on 1) a panel of vehicle trajectories derived from connected vehicle and LBS data and 2) A set of “ground truth” AADT values, derived from HPMS. Read more about Replica’s methodology and validation at https://documentation.replicahq.com/docs/hourly-auto-volume-profile.

Weekday average volumes (AAWDT) from VDOT. Note that VDOT handles bi-directional roadway counts different. Also note that all the segments explored are labeled as quality “G,” which indicates they are “Factored Short Term Traffic Count Data with Growth Element.”

While the AADT estimates data presented above represents annual averages, an separate exploration of trip seasonality was conducted utilizing the Replica Trends dataset, which provides weekly travel data down to the the Census tract level. This assessment identified that approximately 8 percent more trips occur in summer months. This calculation is based on averaging personal vehicle trips occurring in the weeks that end in July and August versus the weekly average across the full year, for the geographic area presented below.
Year | Trips in Summer Months | Trips All year | Difference (%) |
---|---|---|---|
2019 | 59978 | 55535 | 8.00% |

City of Virginia Beach provides traffic counts conducated over the past years. They are accessible at this link (https://vbgov.public.ms2soft.com/tcds/tsearch.asp?loc=Vbgov&mod=TCDS). We may want to spot check Replica and/or VDOT counts against this real world counts, as both VDOT and Replica use some modeling and approximation.
