Overview: In this study, we have analysed the motor vehicle usage in Australia for the year 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020. We initially started by examining the total number of vehicles in Australia in the year 2020 based on type of vehicles such as passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, motorcycles, rigid trucks, articulated trucks, buses, and non-freight carrying trucks. It was fascinating to see passenger vehicles was having the majority share of approximately 75 percentage. Later we wanted to know how things had changed over time, so we analysed the total number of vehicles in each state from the year 2012 to 2020, it was showing an upward trend year after year. Then we analysed the total kilometers travelled by vehicles from the year 2012 to 2020 in each state and saw that it is almost like a straight line with less deviations. Then we explored the average kilometers travelled by different type of vehicles, and it’s clearly visible that articulated trucks have the biggest figures. And we also wanted to know the proportion of total number of vehicles and total kilometers travelled by vehicles, and analysed the differences among them across different states.
Then we had an overview on type of fuels consumed in each state and one of the most significant findings was, in most of the states diesel fuel consumption is dominated than other type of fuels except in states such as NSW and ACT. Finally, we had a look into the average fuel consumed in different type of vehicles and understood that motorcycles are the most fuel-efficient vehicle.
