Introduction

Depression is a growing mental health concern affecting millions of lives across the worldwide. By analysing the data from year 2012 to 2018 in state of california, this analysis aims to understand trends and insights into how depression impacts various demographic groups and identifies key factors for its prevalence. This analysis comprises of different people across race, gender, education, income, and age groups. After analysing the key factors, we hope to address this serious issue of mental health and tackle it by adopting various measures. Now let us discuss the depression trend across various demographies given as:

1. Total Population depressed by year

The total population experiencing depression has shown variability from 2012 to 2018. there was a highest increase in year 2012 and 2018 having frequency above 1900 while year 2014 recorded the lowest population with around 1300 people. Year 2013,2015,2016 and 2017 have moderate number population suffering from depression.

2. Total Population depressed by Race - ethnicity

When examining depression by race and ethnicity, it is evident that certain groups are more affected than others. The white population has all time highest frequency of depression with around 7250 person depressed over the period of 7 year, while asia or pacific islanders have frequency less than that of 500. Hispanic Population has second high population in terms of depression of around 3000 people in the given timeline. Black and other population have almost same frequency.

3. Total Population depressed by Education Level

Education appears to have a considerate amount of impact on depression rates. Individuals who are college or post graduate tend to have more mental health issues as compared to High school Dropouts. while High school passouts also have significant number of people who are prone to depression.

4. Total Population depressed by Gender

Gender plays a significant role in depression rates, females tend to experiencing depression at much higher frequencies as compared to males.

5. Total Population depressed by Income Level

Income level is another factor for determining depression rates. Individuals with lower incomes, particularly those earning less than $20,000, have the highest frequencies of depression. In contrast, those with higher incomes (over $100,000) show lower frequencies. Individual earning between $35,000 to $99,999 have almost same frequency of depression.

6. Total Population depressed by age group

Age is also a significant factor in depression, with the highest frequencies observed in the older age groups such as 55-64 years and 65+ years. Age groups such as 18-34 years and 45-54 have almost same and considerable frequencies. The least affected age group among all is 35-44.

Preventive measures to avoid Depression

Conclusion

The visualizations gives a detailed picture of the prevalence of depression among various demographics. The increasing trend of depression over the years across various races, ethnicities, gender and age groups due to issues like income level and education qualification requires the urgent need for various mental health strategies to overcome the depression. The strategies should be such that it should cater the needs of various demographic groups to effectively overcome this mental health crisis.
