The outline of state of California layer was found in the ANT109 Class 9 html. For the river layer, I looked up “qgis california rivers shapefile” on Google and downloaded the shapefile from ArcGIS Hub called “Major California Rivers.” To find the terrain layer, I followed the tip on the Homework Assignment pdf and downloaded dem90_hf.tif from the Science Base Catalog. For the map with the cities, I at first tried to use OpenStreetMap from the QuickMapServices plug-in, but I found the roads and other unnecessary labels distracting. To fix this, I looked up “qgis osm can i take elements off a map” and found a response on Stack Exchange advising to download Esri OSM as a vector tile layer (XYZ Tile). After that, I was able to edit and delete unnecessary labels by opening the Label Styling panel.
