Northern California

Map of Northern Californian Cities, Rivers, and Elevation

Caption: This is a map of northern California. It includes major cities that have more than 100,000 people. It also includes major rivers as well as an elevation gradient. While this is a map of norther California, it focuses on the Sacramento area as the focal point and the map area includes evereywhere from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe.

Explanation of layers: The first layer I included was the “simple terrain” tile. It included the terrain without city labels so I was able to add a city shapefile. Next I used a the “California State Boundaries” shaepfile that we used prevously in class on top of the previous layer to outline the state boundaries. Next, I used a city shapefile from ArcGIS Hub. I downloaded the shapefile and loaded it ontop of the 2 previous layers and filtered to only show cities with more than 100,000 people for their population. Next, a california major rivers shapefile also from ArcGIS Hub and loaded it ontop of the the previous 3 layers. Last, I loaded an elevation gradient shapefile from the instructions on the homework pdf and put that ontop of all of the previous layers.
