Article 1: The Changing Nature of Middle-Class Jobs
One thing that was particularly compelling about the visualizations was that they emphasized and labeled the lines on the graphs that were most compelling and that they wanted to highlight to tell a story with the data. The article used multiple techniques in its visualizations to tell different things, like the slope of the line, the color of the line, and the opacity of the line.
One thing that was particularly compelling about the text is that it was it was very concise, giving more power to the visualizations to tell the story of the data. It only highlighted a few hard-hitting facts about the data and left the rest of the storytelling to the graphs.
One idea this article gave me for my project is to think about creative ways to showcase multiple types of information into a single graph, while also being careful not to overwhelm the reader with a graph that is too complicated to easily understand.
Article 2: Colorism in High Fashion
One thing that was particularly compelling about the visualizations was that they were extremely simple, and each one built onto the previous one, making it very easy to follow along at arrive at the final graph, which would have been more difficult to understand without breaking down each of the components beforehand.
One thing that was particularly compelling about the text is that it did an excellent job of explaining in very simple terms how the analysis was done, and it very clearly guided the reader along with the graphs to the author’s conclusions about colorism in modeling.
One idea this article gave me for my project is to focus on the storytelling of my data analysis, rather than just making a bunch of unrelated graphs.
