  1. Question: An important performance indicator of road safety used by traffic planning authorities is the number of accidents. While objective and reliable for absolute safety, this measurement doesn’t provide insight into the cause of low or high road safety. If a road is very dangerous to cross for pedestrians, or to use for cyclists, the likelihood of accidents involving these modes of transportation is drastically reduced simply due to the lower numbers of pedestrians and cyclists.
In your view, how can traffic planning authorities best ensure connectedness and the safety of all modes of transport, in addition to using accident data?

If you have specific suggestions for the traffic safety in Formby, please give them in a few words here (max 150 characters):
lower speed limits / stricter policing of speeding
speed bumps, zebra crossings
Right of way is never given to pedestrians. The area around Range school during drop off and pick up is extremely dangerous. Need better road safety
People parking their ‘Chelsea tractors’ on pavements around schools. Less reliance on a car for school drop offs.
20 mile signs do nothing. People still speed. Parking on pavements. No thought for others.
Need more speeding awareness/checking
Enforce speed limit, stop parking on pavements, school buses would help alleviate the congestion caused by parents collecting kids, subsidise buses.
The 20 mph speed limits need to be enforced. It is outrageous the speeds people drive down Church Road and Green Lane (for example).
Pit the speed back up to 30mph on all roads bar those either side of schools where flashing lights around 20mph in situ like they do in America.
20mph speed limit for whole of Formby, policed and enforced
Update pedestrian crossing to lights so cars vans etc have to stop and not continue whilst pedestrians are still on the crossing
Active travel needs to be prioritised. Pedestrian and cycle safety is not considered at all in planning or implementation. “School Streets” please!
Crack down on speeding!

Make over 70’s have a yearly test - some of them should not be driving

Free car parking would stop the on street parking and make it safer
Older drivers should be encouraged to use their free bus passes instead of driving when they’re medically unfit.
Mini roundabout at the junction of Altcar Road and Cross Green/Church Road
Drivers to be educated to be less selfish.
Chicanes on Raven Meols to slow traffic and protect Red Squirrels
Zebra crossing awareness for car drivers I see many whilst driving and walking just carry on whilst someone is waiting to cross.
Pedestrian crossing on Freshfield road Pedestrian crossing on Ravenmeols lane Pedestrian crossing on Queens Road Extremely Dangerous at school times
Get the pot holes repaired
Pedestrianised zones
Reduce speed limit to 20 on most roads
Dangerous crossing near Fire Station cars fail to stop when pedestrian waiting to cross or when half way across due to vehicles speeding
Double yellows all along Gore’s Lane, when passing parked cars on your left oncoming cars come straight at you like your invisible
The junction of Altcar Road & Cross Green may need a traffic island. The bypass end of Altcar road needs to have pavement on both sides.
The number of access roads has remained the same, despite recent growth. This causes delays, particularly at peak times and needs consideration
People parking their ‘Chelsea tractors’ on pavements around schools. Less reliance on a car for school drop offs.
Zebra crossing needed urgently cross green . Bus stop either side and impossible for pedestrians to cross . Speeding cars .
Car drivers need a better education at a roundabout. It’s ridiculous many drive straight over, don’t give way to the right , sit there stupidly !!.
Scrap all 20mph speed limits, people driving 20 in 30s causes people to drive aggressively. Enforce 20s only around schools at start and end of school
Gores Lane can be like a race track. There have been numerous incidents including my own car written off and school access is terrifying and high risk
More School Streets initiatives, ban on pavement parking and enforcing speed issues
Speed limits are largely ignored in Formby as with everywhere else. Traffic calming measures and speed enforcement are strongly needed.
Enforcement at zebra crossings - no one stops.Parking is a mess and very dangerous, more enforcement again. The village would be amazing pedestrianised

They need road humps to slow people down due to the speeding,.
Pedestrian crossings in strategic places. For example on Liverpool Road by the busy Foormby clinic
Reduced speeds. Speed bumps and more traffic lights, pedestrian crossings. Schools don’t have enough signage to tell drivers to slow down.
Stop adding more housing
Less parking on roads, especially double parking and that near junctions
Pedestrianise the village
Preventing illegal parking wherever it may be eg outside schools, blocking people’s driveways on busy summer days
Enhanced road and pedestrian safety features outside or near to the schools and/or traffic calming measures to better enforce the 20mph zones.
We need a crossing on Paradise Lane for St Peters school. Too dangerous with all the parked cars. Cars mounting the curb to get past bottleneck.
Reduce all roads to 20mph. Pedestrian crossing needs to be improved near schools, Queens Road, Liverpool Road
Potholes are awful with many roads looking like the surface of the moon.
Reduce the speed limit coming off the bypass onto Liverpool Road to 30 mph and put speed cameras in place. Far too many speeders entering Formby
Far too many new houses resulting in too many cars on roads causing major congestion. Please NO cycle lanes to be introduced making it worse.
Strict enforcement of speed limits/clamp down on pavement parking/ traffic free zones around all schools/ pedestrianise village
Traffic calming humps on main thoroughfare and side streets
More double yellow lines in Duke Street. Sefton council is happy to take money for the painting of lines but refuses the requests for double yellows
Fundraising for speed cameras, or lowering speed limits.
Infrastructure has never been addressed since increased new build in area. Basically, country lanes in & out of Formby
Level of roadworks across Formby
There should be a crossing on cross green. There are bus stops on both sides of the road and you take a chance trying to cross
There should be a zebra crossing on cross green by the cross house as there is a bus stop on either side of road and no were to cross the road safely
speed bumps
Mini roundabout would help congestion at junction of Church Rd/Altcar Rd/Cross Green. Queue can go 3/4 the way up to Tesco.
More off road free parking I am a pensioner and my car is my lifeline to get to Formby Village ,,if,I didn’t have. My car I,would be housebound
Better parking or drop off facilities would improve rush hour at schools. Parents will NOT stop car usage. Be pragmatic.
Adult bikers on pavements are causing m.,injury and confusion. As a pedestrian myself I have to be constantly aware of the danger.when simply shopping
A crossing to be put in at the top of altcar / church road. Very dangerous to cross and cars don’t let each other out
Some roads … Traffic very busy, vehicles drive too fast
Use local school and walk to school
More pelican crossings, greater pedestrian consideration
I live on Duke Street. Cars drive up and down often at high speeds. 2 days ago 2 cars passed me at at least 60 mph. Need speed guns to stop this
School drop offs and pick ups are the worst. Make the village pedestrian only.
On Liverpool Road by new housing developments the speed limit needs to be 30mph same as the rest of Liverpool Road before it goes down to 20mph.
Ravenmeols Lane, a defident to please reduce speed.
Pavement driving & parking is out of control, nobody to enforce it, drivers are entitled & dangerous. I am dreading my child walking to high school
Pavement driving & parking is out of control, nobody to enforce it, drivers are entitled & dangerous. I am dreading my child walking to high school
Act with Police to constrain the terrible youth cycling problem. They have no helmets, no sense of safety and swoop all over roads and pavements.
Traffic calming measures of some kind needed on Liverpool Road as traffic speeds down that road
Road pot hole repairs needed Roadside drains require regular cleaning and gullies sucked clean
We need to reduce the speed limit on Liverpool Road coming to and from the bypass and we need a roundabout at the entrance to pinewood park.
Enforce parking restrictions around school drop off and pick up times, (school run) as too many parents abandoned vehicles create chaos.
Drivers need to SLOW DOWN - today saw squished red squirrel and hedgehog

More car parking for National Trust at Lifeboat Road and more traffic wardens on duty to stop illegal parking in areas around National Trust land.
The roundabout by Duke Street park should be a junction with traffic lights.
School buses instead of private cars. Not more restrictions but encouraging positive traffic behaviour! Limiting housing/ population of Formby
Stop buses coming dien kirklake rd it’s causing the reoccurring sink holes
Remove road in the village
Park and ride for the beach; parking in village
20 mph areas need to be revisited and enforced only around schools where NO PARKING within 200metres should also be introduced. WALK WALK.
Securely more 20 mph zones and speed numbs especially near schools. Also parked cars on pavements present hazards near schools so reduce this.
More pedestrian crossings/traffic islands on busy roads, especially in areas used by children who walk and cycle to school.
More on-road parking restrictions to ensure people/visitors use designated parking areas and car parks.
Fix the potholes
Please fill the pot holes. Ask motorists to adhere to speed limits, be more considerate to pedestrians, cyclists, mobility scooters, etc.
Reduce car use. Too many and too fast.
Clamp down on cars double parking on roads

Huge traffic around schools, mainly since new estates have been built, drivers massively exceed speed limit: Queen’s Road, Kirklake Road and nearby
Wide cycle paths running east/west along or parrallel to Duke St / Kirklake or Raven Moels / Bushby’s Lane. Could these roads be each be made one-way?
