Scraping Opentable, An Analysis of Moerlein Lager House Using RStudio

Intro

Moerlein Lager House a staple of downtown Cincinnati has been one of my favorite restaurants in Cincinnati for a while now. I recently gather some data from their reviews on OpenTable and will be performing an analysis of that data here.

The Highest and Lowest Performing Attirbutes

From the analysis below we will create a bar chart to assess the highest and lowest rated attributes of Moerlein. Ambience received the highest ratings average at 4.298/5, and Food received the lowest at 4.210/5.

Overall, I would say that people are generally satisfied with the experience at Moerlein, but if there were an area to focus on improvement it would be the food.

Overall Ratings by Location

Below is a graph that represents overall ratings based on where the reviewers are from. I opted only to use locations with 25 or more reviews.

As you can see below the satisfaction rating for Moerlein does not drop below a 4 for all locations with at least 25 reviews. It seems that no matter where the guest is from, Moerlein is a good option for dining and will satisfy all parties.

What Locations are the Least Satisfied with their Experience at Moerlein?

The locations that are least satisfied at Moerlein are, Atlantic City, Boise, Montana, Portugal, & Seattle.

None of these locations have an average rating greater than 2.5. Why is that?

From these two reviews, It seems that one customer was happy with their experience, and one was not.

Customer [1] had complaints about service and the food. According to this customer a list of things to improve on would be

  • Attentiveness

  • Price

  • Seating Arrangements

  • Timeliness

The initial visit of a customer is often the most important as you only get one first impression. With this analysis it seems unlikely that Customer [1] would attend Moerlein again without an incentive to do so.

[1] "Made a reservation about 2 weeks prior for 90 minutes prior to the Reds game for 10:00am Sunday, May 21 vs. Yankees. I reserved a hi-top in the beer garden area. The doors of the restaurant open at 10:00am -- but we waited 10 minutes to be seated and there were not tables available even though the restaurant was still mostly empty. We got seated outside in a corner, and so we rarely saw our server. We did not get our food until 11:00am. So, we had to eat it fast to make opening pitch. 5 sandwiches should not take an hour. And the food is average at best-- nothing spectacular for $160. Great location. Great facility. Crazy expensive \"airport food\"."
