The GeoLocation variable has (lat, long) format

Split GeoLocation (lat, long) into two columns: lat and long

Filter the dataset

Remove the StateDesc that includes the United Sates, select Prevention as the category (of interest), filter for only measuring crude prevalence and select only 2017.

The new dataset “Prevention” is a manageable dataset now.

For your assignment, work with the cleaned “Prevention” dataset

1. Once you run the above code, filter this dataset one more time for any particular subset.

2. Based on the GIS tutorial (Japan earthquakes), create one plot about something in your subsetted dataset.

ggplot(wa, aes(x = PopulationCount, y = Data_Value, color = CityName)) +
  geom_point() +
  labs(title = "Population vs % of adults doing cholesterol screening")

3. Now create a map of your subsetted dataset.

First map chunk here

leaflet() |>
  addProviderTiles("Esri.WorldStreetMap") |>
  setView(lng = -120.43, lat = 47.58, zoom = 6) |>
  addCircles(
    data = wa,
    radius = wa$Data_Value * 12,
    fillColor = "#18a191",
    fillOpacity = 0.5)
Assuming "long" and "lat" are longitude and latitude, respectively

4. Refine your map to include a mousover tooltip

Refined map chunk here

tooltip <- paste0(
      "<b>City: </b>", wa$CityName, "<br>",
      "<b>Population: </b>", wa$PopulationCount, "<br>",
      "<b>% of adults doing Cholesterol Screening: </b>", wa$Data_Value, "<br>"
    )

Map

leaflet() |>
  addProviderTiles("Esri.WorldStreetMap") |>
  setView(lng = -120.43, lat = 47.58, zoom = 6) |>
  addCircles(
    data = wa,
    radius = wa$Data_Value * 12,
    fillColor = "#18a191",
    fillOpacity = 0.5,
    popup = tooltip)
Assuming "long" and "lat" are longitude and latitude, respectively

5. Write a paragraph

To subset my data I filtered for cities in Washington State. Then I filtered for the Cholesterol Screeing measure and then I filtered for population under 50000 to make sure the city populations as a whole did not skew my first plot. The first plot is a scatter plot between population and the data value percent of adults doing cholesterol screening along with color for city. The plot shows that there is not much of a relationship between population and cholesterol screening amonst adults and that what city you are in does not make an impact either. For the leaflet map I used the subsetted data and did the radius as the percent of adults doing cholesterol screening. Next I added the tooltip for population, city, and data value. After seeing the map there is not too much more insight to be seen. Most of the points on the map have a similiar size showing that there is not much meaningfull variation or spread in cholesterol screening amongst adults in different parts of the cities in Washington State similar to what was suggested by the first plot.
