Measures

Values: Past

We want you to think of your most recent workplace.

That workplace’s mission is guided by a certain set of values. What are the values that this organization stands for?

To indicate that organization’s priorities, you have a sum of 100 points. Please allocate those points to the following values based on how important you think they are to the organization.

The values, presented in alphabetical order, are: Customer Service; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Employee Well-Being; Innovation; Passion; Profit; Quality; Sustainability.

So, If you think a certain value is more important than another value, then the first value would get more points than the second. If you think a certain value is not important at all, it would get zero points. Must total 100 points.

Values: Ideal

Now, we want you to imagine your ideal workplace.

If you could work at any organization you want, what would be its guiding values?

To that end, you have a sum of 100 points. Please allocate those points to the following values based on how important they are TO YOU.

Values: Difference scores

To calculate difference scores, I took the absolute difference between past and present for each value and then took the mean of those differences. I’ll start here by showing the distributions above laid on top of each other, then the distributions of the difference scores, and then the distribution of the mean difference score.

Organizational commitment

Please indicate the extent to which agree or disagree with the following statements as they relate to your most recent workplace.

1. For me, my most recent workplace was a good place to work in.
2. My most recent workplace is attractive to me as a place for employment.
3. I felt positive about having a job at that organization.

Cronbach’s alpha = 0.89
