Variables that matter when it comes to cheating

Although it may not be just one thing, these are the variables that matter the most when it comes to cheating:

  • Children
  • Years Married
  • Religiousness
  • Marriage Rating

Rating: Take people at their word when they say they have a good marriage

Religiousness: Seems like going to church is a good thing…

Children: Remember you have a spouse? People with children cheat almost twice as much.

Years Married: Now I know where the 7 in the seven year itch comes from

Rating is something in between cheating and all the other variables (a mediating variable), making it something we’d like to predict.

Given that Rating is such a powerful predictor of cheating, we now examine what makes a good or bad Rating

What makes up a rating

The longer a person is married, and the more education that person has, the more likely they are to be unfaithful.

In summary

  • Rating is analogous to perceived quality. If you rate you marriage as great, you will likely value it (read: not cheating).
  • Big influences on rating are
    • Years married
    • Education
    • Children
    • Religiousness.
