Background

Management PhD students had a meeting with Malia and Stephan on 10/18/2023. In that meeting, students brought up an issue with class options and scheduling. Because there are very few mandatory core classes within Management, students take many external classes. Those external classes can have special requirements (especially of they’re not in the business school) and their scheduling often conflicts with management core classes or activities.

It might be possible to adjust some of our own internal scheduling or reach out to other departments to adjust their requirements.

So, to understand our needs better, we conducted a brief survey.

Questions

Students were asked to list all non-core classes that they have taken.

For each class, they indicated; (1) how valuable it was for their research (1 = Not at All Valuable to 5 = Extremely Valuable); (2) how enjoyable it was (1 = Not at All Enjoyable to 5 = Extremely Enjoyable); and (3) whether they would recommend that the division would take it into account when scheduling core class (YES or NO).
