Hong Kong, USA, & Russia Tourism and Employment Data 2007-2017

These three scatterplots take a look at the relationship between total inbound arrivals and the amount of employees in tourism industries in Hong Kong, the US, and Russia from 2007-2017. It explains how as the amount of tourists in a certain country increases, more people are required to work in the tourism industries to keep up with the boom.

HighChart Grid of Corruption Variables in USA, Russia, and Iraq

The Worldwide Governance Indicators project reports the perceptions of governance of a large number of survey respondents and expert assessments worldwide. Three of the indicators they found are used in tandem with each other to help analyze if there is a link between corruption and governance.

Specifically, we are looking at government effectiveness, political stability, and control of corruption in the United States, Russia, and Iraq. We can see the different variables throughout the years, and use this to determine why there were changes, and if they were due to major government or terrorism events.

Here we are looking at same three variables as before, government effectiveness, political stability, and control of corruption, but in Yemen and Venezuela.

Unlike the United States, Russia, and Iraq, there seems to be more of a connection between the three variables in Yemen and Venezuela.

Comparing CPI and Stability rankings to different countries from 2012-2018

Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys. With CPI, countries are ranked on a scale of 0-100, where 0 means highly corrupt and 100 means very clean. From this chart it’s easy to tell that the United States and France aren’t nearly as corrupt as Colombia, Iran and Russia.

Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism measures perceptions of the likelihood of political instability and/or politically-motivated violence, including terrorism. This graph shows how the percentile of Political Stability and Absence of Violence and Terrorism within certain countries is changed over time, from 2012 to 2018. A higher ranking means a country is less likely to experience political instability and/or politically-motivated violence, including terrorism.

Comparing Total Arrivals and Tourism

This time series looks at the same countries as the previous charts but this time compares total arrivals (in thousands) from 2012 to 2018. From the chart, you can see that most countries have remained very consistent over this time and that France and the United States receive a lot more tourists than Colombia, Iran and Russia.
