CalEnviroScreen (CES) measures potential exposures to pollutants, adverse environmental conditions, socioeconomic factors and the prevalence of certain health conditions within each California census tract. The CalEnviroScreen 4.0 score is an aggregated and weighted ranking of these factors into a single value, representing their cumulative impacts. CES scores allow for the visualization of environmental impacts on different populations and public health outcomes. This dashboard presents the CES scores in comparison to the prevalence of low birth weights and emergency room visits due to asthma.
CES 4.0 Score are correlated with both low birth weight and asthma rates, with correlation coefficients of 0.466 and 0.588 respectively, and p-values < 0.001. A 10-point increase in CES 4.0 score is associated with an average 0.45 percentage point increase in the prevalence of low birth weight, and an average 10.88 point increase in the rate of emergency room visits due to asthma.
