Area Deprivation Index for MHM Service Area
Mapping Area Deprivation Index (ADI) across MHM Service Area
The Area Deprivation Index (ADI) is based on a measure created by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and is validated at the census block neighborhood level. It ranks neighborhoods by socioeconomic disadvantage at the state and national level. Factors used to create this index include income, employment, housing quality, and education.
Below are maps showing ADI ranking at the census tract level across the MHM service area. A Low ADI rank indicates the least disadvantage whereas high ADI rank indicate greater disadvantage. Darker colors represent low ADI conversely, lighter colors represent high ADI.
The first map plots ADI to give a general overview of disadvantage across the service area. Generally, parts of the San Antonio and Austin metro areas, along with the I-35 corridor have the least disadvantage. More disadvantaged areas appear in south Texas near the Mexican border. The second map is interactive and allows users to zoom into areas of interest.
