The purpose of this analysis is to examine motor vehicle theft crime reports made on the island of Oʻahu.
A total of 392 unique crime reports between 8/20/2015 to 9/9/2015, or 4 rolling weeks, were collected from CrimeMapping.com. Information such as the type of crime, location, agency, and date were collected for each report.
Crime reports were first geocoded to closest street address in proximty. The geography level used for this analysis was locality as defined by Google.
The population of Hawaii residents who owned a vehicle was extrapolated from the U.S. Census Bureau, 2009-2013 5-Year American Community Survey B08015 table: AGGREGATE NUMBER OF VEHICLES (CAR, TRUCK, OR VAN) USED IN COMMUTING BY WORKERS 16 YEARS AND OVER BY SEX.
