Introduction

Welcome to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Venue Information project! This project aims to assist visitors attending Team India matches during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It provides comprehensive details about the venues, seating capacity, match timings, and transportation options. In this document, we will guide you through the key features and functionalities of this project.

Problem Definition

Cricket fans who want to follow Team India’s matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 often struggle to find all the necessary information in one place. They need details like where the matches are held, how many seats are available, when the matches start, and how to get there. This makes it challenging for fans to plan their match-day experience effectively and enjoy the games to the fullest. Solving this problem involves creating a user-friendly solution that gathers and presents all this information in one easy-to-access location, making it simpler and more enjoyable for fans to support Team India during the tournament.

Project Objectives

Our project has the following objectives:

  1. Match Details Information:
    • Provide information about the teams playing, specifying Team India and their opponent.
    • Include venue details such as the name of the stadium.
    • Display the seating capacity of the stadium.
    • Show the total number of matches scheduled at each venue.
    • Present the match timing in IST (Indian Standard Time).
  2. Transportation Information:
    • Offer information about the nearest airport to the stadium.
    • Specify the distance from the nearest airport to the stadium in kilometers.
    • Provide details about the nearest railway station to the stadium.
    • Specify the distance from the nearest railway station to the stadium in kilometers.

Project Details

To achieve our objectives, we have implemented the following functionalities in our R Markdown file, “WC2023_Interactive_Venue.Rmd”:

Data Selection, Loading and Preparation

We start by loading the required libraries and importing data from an Excel file named “R Assignment Dataset.xlsx.” This dataset contains information about Team India matches during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which we have collected on our own from multiple sources available online.

Data Sorting and Labeling

We organize the data by sorting it based on the match date. Additionally, we create a custom label for each match, making it easier to identify matches on the map.

Interactive Leaflet Map

The core of our project is an interactive Leaflet map, which includes the following components:

Venue Information Layer

  • Markers on the map represent venue information.
  • Popups display details such as venue name, seating capacity, location, match date, teams playing, match timing, nearest airport, and distance from the nearest airport.

Stadium Capacity Layer

  • Circular markers on the map represent the seating capacity of each venue.
  • The marker size is adjusted based on the seating capacity, allowing you to quickly identify larger stadiums.

Match Timing Layer

  • Circular markers on the map represent match timings.
  • These markers have a fixed size for easy identification.

Layer Control

We provide a layer control that allows you to toggle between different map layers: - “Venue Information”: Show or hide venue details. - “Stadium Capacity”: Show or hide seating capacity markers. - “Match Timing”: Show or hide match timing markers.

The output of the project is an interactive and visually appealing web-based map that provides cricket enthusiasts and Team India fans with a wealth of information at their fingertips. This map offers a dynamic visualization of the tournament venues, their seating capacities, match timings and transportation options. Users can effortlessly navigate through the map, clicking on venue markers to access detailed information in pop-up windows. Fans can also explore the stadium capacities and match timings through color-coded markers, making it easy to plan their match-day experience. The layer control feature allows users to toggle between different overlays, enhancing the map’s usability. Overall, the output of this project significantly enhances the fan experience by simplifying venue-related information and creating a more enjoyable and informed ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 experience for Team India supporters.
