How to Participate

Participants in this game are required to submit their predictions no later than midnight on Thursday September 29th. A $10 entry fee is due at time of submission. Venmo Sarah Brown (@scathbrown).

Notes

  1. In the past GBBO does not distinguish between 2nd and 3rd place. On the last episode, a winner is chosen but 2nd and 3rd place are not announced. If this season is the same, scoring will treat 2nd and 3rd place as tied for 2nd.
  2. Winner takes all. In the event of a tie, proceeds will be donated to a charity the winners agree on.

Scoring Details

Participants will submit predictions for what place each contestant will finish in. These predictions will be compared to the actual finish that takes place and scored. For each contestant, scoring is based on the difference in the predicted place, and the actual finish. A point bonus is given for correct guesses, and and extra point bonus is given for correctly predicting the season winner. Details and examples are below.

Difference Points
0, Correct! 7 (15 if season winner)
1 week off 3
2 weeks off 2
3 weeks off 1
4 weeks off 0
5 weeks off -1
6 weeks off -2
7 weeks off -3
8 weeks off -4

Scoring stats for nerds

If we run this experiment many times, we can determine the probability of scoring a given score with guesses randomly. Now obviously our guesses are not random, they are calculated, based on the first two episodes and solid instincts. Regardless, if you guessed randomly, here is what you can expect to score…

5,000 guesses were simulated.
