Welcome to yet another edition of the Monthly Animal Health Epi-Lab Report. In this issue, a general overview of the animal disease events reported to MAAIF between January – December 2022 is provided as well as a summary of reporting status by districts and cities in Uganda.


In this report, we showcase the following updates:

  • Status of animal disease reporting by district
  • Disease situation based on laboratory confirmations
  • Zoonotic and priority disease of concern

1. Pox

1.1 A comparison of animals at risk and those vaccinated of pox

Monthly data indicates low levels of vaccination (being the intervention) were done in 2022 despite noticing very high numbers of animals at risk, cases and deaths reporded throughout the year

1.2 Pox incidence and case fatality rate

Definition: Incidence computed as a proportion of cases at risk Case fatality rate computed as a proportion of the number of cases that end up dying

2. Mange
