Background

In our previous study, we were concerned about participants going to chat-gpt and pasting in the open-end responses. Here, we did the following the help alleviate that: disabled paste AND tracked their off-task mouse movements (anything outside of the tab).

We also changed the control condition. Instead of a blank page, we asked participants to describe the rules of the game as if they’re explaining it to someone else.

Attention checks

Before we keep going, let’s see how many passed attention checks.
att_1: If you, as Sender, forwarded $5 to the Receiver, how much would the Receiver then have in their account?
att_2: If the Receiver had 15 dollars in their account and returned 6 dollars to you as the Sender, how much would the Receiver end up with?

att_1 att_2 N
0 1 13
1 0 19
1 1 270

Great. That leaves us with 270 participants who passed both checks.

Off-task time spent

Let’s also see who spent a lot of time off-task during the manipulation page. To that end, I gathered everyone’s on- and off-task time per page. Then, I took the mean off-task time per participant per page for any page that isn’t the manipulation, as well as the manipulation page. If a participant spent more than double off-task time in the manipulation page, as they did in all of the other pages, their responses are flagged. Let’s see how many flagged and just how many seconds we’re talking here.

hmm, most of them actually passed attention checks. We’re dealing with seasoned survey-takers here.

Let’s see the distribution:

## `stat_bin()` using `bins = 30`. Pick better value with `binwidth`.

ok, that’s not so bad.

I’ll just keep going without looking at the flagged participants separately. It’s not that many people, and paste was disabled anyway. But… if we do want to disqualify them, I think it’s ok because the numbers are pretty similar between conditions.

CONTROL 0 0 I start of with $10. I can choose to send money to a receiver. That amount triples and then the receiver can decide to send some, if any, back to me.
CONTROL 0 0 I can send whatever id like to the receiver out of 15. It is then tripled. They can send back whatever they would like
CONTROL 0 0 There are two players. The first player is the sender, they get to choose an amount between 0 and 10 to send to the second player. The second player, the receiver, gets to receive triple that amount they were sent and then decide how much to send back to player one.
CONTROL 0 0 If I trust the other person I can send them money hoping they will return some of the multiplied money.
CONTROL 0 0 The Sender sends money to the reciever, which is tripled. The receiver then sends money back to the sender if they choose.
CONTROL 0 0 There are two roles, the sender and the receiver, the sender can choose to send any amount of money to the receiver and that amount would triple, the receiver can choose to send back any amount of the money they receive.
CONTROL 0 0 I am allotted $10 dollars to send to a receiver. Any amount I send, will be tripled. I can choose to send nothing at all or just some. The receiver can then decide to send me money back or not.
CONTROL 0 0 I start with an alotted amount of money and can choose to send some to a receiver. Whatever I send them goes to them x3. They can either keep it all or choose to return some of whatever you give them.
CONTROL 1 0 You start out with 10 dollars- If you’re the sender, then you can choose how much if any to send to the receiver. That amount is tripled then the receiver chooses how much, if any, to send back.
CONTROL 0 0 we are being asked to trust strangers or not. if they are trustworthy they will send some back, if not they will keep what they receive. jif we feel that we dont trust them, we can opt to not send any money
CONTROL 0 0 In this game, you start as the Sender with $10. You can choose to send any amount of that money to the Receiver, which triples in value when it reaches them. The Receiver can then decide how much, if any, to return to you, while keeping the rest for themselves.
CONTROL 0 0 The sender starts off with $10. They can send any amount they wish to the receiver. If they choose to send nothing, then the sender keeps it all and the receiver gets nothing. If the sender sends money to the receiver, then the receiver has the option to send back money to the sender, which then would be tripled for the sender or the receiver could keep it all and the sender gets nothing.
CONTROL 0 0 I am given $10 and can send any amount to the Receiver. This amount is tripled. The Receiver can then send any amount back.
CONTROL 0 0 If I am the sender, whatever I send triples. For example, if I send $5, it becomes $15. The receiver can choose to send some money back to me. They can keep whatever they do not send back.
CONTROL 0 0 You begin with $10 and as the sender, you have the choice to give the receiver any amount. The amount you choose to give to the receiver, is then tripled. Then the receiver has the option to give any back to you if that is what they choose to do. There is a 1/50 chance to truly win this money.
CONTROL 0 0 A sender is endowed with money that they have the option to share with another person. This money shared is tripled and the receiver has the choice to send some money back.
CONTROL 0 0 we are to play a game where the sender starts out with a set amount of money that can be sent to the receiver. whatever the amount the sender sends is then tripled. the receiver can then send back however much money to the sender they deem appropriate. whatever money is left over is kept by the sender. some information about the other participant in this survey was provided to me to help make a decision in this game.
CONTROL 0 1 This is a game built around trust and risk. Person A can send money to person B. The money sent triples. Person B can then send some amount back to person A.
CONTROL 0 1 There’s a sender and a receiver. The receiver starts out with $10, and has the choice to send some of the money to a receiver. Whatever they send to the receiver will triple in value on the receiver’s end. The receiver then has the option to send some money back to the sender or keep the tripled amount for themselves.
CONTROL 0 1 it’s a game where what you send us being tripled and what you will receive depends on what the reciever sends
CONTROL 0 2 You get $10 and decide whether to share it with someone else. If you do, they will get triple what you give them and have to decide if to return any of it to you.
CONTROL 0 2 I chose to give a certain amount to the receiver and it will triple when it reaches his account. I then relies on what he/she’s willing to give me
CONTROL 0 2 As a sender, I send a portion of $10 to a receiver. they get triple what I send them. In the next phase, they send me money. they lose that amount. the money they send does not triple.
CONTROL 0 3 As a sender you have to choose how much of an initial $10 you receive to send to the recipient. The catch is that any money you send is tripled and then the recipient chooses how much to send back to you. The recipient starts with nothing. I think there is some strategy but also blind faith in this game. For example, if you send nothing then you end up with $10 as the sender but you could hypothetically improve your pot by sending a generous amount and hoping you get some back.
CONTROL 0 3 The sender takes a leap of faith in the amount of money they send to the receiver. Whatever the sender sends, it will triple for the receiver. The receiver will then decide if they want to send any money back to the Sender, however it will remain at its value. The pair has a 1in 50 chance of winning the amounts they allotted in the game.
CONTROL 0 3 The Sender starts with $10 and decides how much to send to the Receiver. Whatever money the Sender sends over is tripled for the Receiver (so if the Sender sent $1, the Receiver would get $3). The Receiver can then decide how much, if any, money they want to send back to the Sender.
CONTROL 0 3 Sender starts with $10 and can share any of that amount, which is tripled, with Receiver. Receiver can send any of that money back to Sender
CONTROL 0 3 I have a total that I start with it is then up to me if I trust a random stranger enough to share money with them in hopes that they will send some back.
CONTROL 0 3 The sender chooses 0 to 10 dollars to send to the receiver. The receiver receives triple what was sent. The receiver chooses how much to send back to the original sender. At what stage the receiver makes this decision is unclear.
CONTROL 0 3 I am about to play the “Sender/Receiver game” in which I am tasked with deciding how to divide $10 between myself and another participant. I am given $10, after which I am to decide how much of that amount I want to send to another participant. Whatever amount I send to them, it triples and they have the option of sending any percentage of that tripled money back to me. For example, if I send the participant the entire $10, it triples to $30. This $30 can then be divided up by the other participant, kept entirely, or sent entirely back to me. It really just depends on the other participant at that point.
CONTROL 0 3 This is a game between two people, the sender and receiver. Whatever money the sender sends to the receiver, it triples. You’re taking a chance the receiver sends some money back to you.
CONTROL 0 3 The Sender decides how much out of $10 they will send to the Receiver. What is sent to the Receiver triples in value and the remainder stays with the Sender. The Receiver can then decide if they in turn sends any back to the original Sender. It is a game of fair play.
CONTROL 0 3 This is a game of trust. The sender can send a as much money as they want to the receiver. The money is tripled. Then the receiver decides how much to send back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 4 It’s a game called send and receive. There’s a sender, who sends money to the receiver and it is tripled. When the receiver sends money to the sender, it’s the base amount.
CONTROL 0 4 I have a maximum of $10 to send to my partner, and any money I send triples for them. They can decide how much they’d like to send back to me.
CONTROL 0 4 I will send money to a receiver their money triples and they can choose what amount, if any, to send back to me
CONTROL 0 4 Anything I send to the receiver from the \(10 allotment gets tripled and put in their account, then I keep what is left. The receiver then decides what amount, if any, to return to me and keeps the remainder for themselves </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 0 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 4 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> Whenever I send any amoun to the receiver, that amount tripples in the receiver's account. CONTROL 0 4 The sender begins the game with $10. The sender then is responsible for sending an amount of $0-$10 to the receiver. The sender gets to decide how much to send. Whatever the receiver receives the amount will triple once in their account. The receiver will then have a choice to send some back to the sender. The sender risks losing money but could possibly gain.
CONTROL 0 5 Sender starts with $10 and sends any amount to receiver. Receiver gets 3x the amount sender sent. Receiver can then send back any amount from that to sender.
CONTROL 0 5 The game has two positions. They are the sender and reciever. The sender has ten dollars and whatever they give to the reciver is tripled. the reciever decides how much of that to send back.
CONTROL 0 5 This game involves two participants, the sender and the receiver. The sender will take a leap of faith and whatever they choose to send the receiver in step 1 will triple. The receiver then has the decision to send none, all, or a portion of the amount they now own.
CONTROL 0 5 The game involves two parties in which one person will be a sender and one a receiver. The sender starts with $10 and has the option to send money to the receiver. The money sent will be tripled. Then the receiver will have the option to send money back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 5 A game of trust, you’ll see if you can trust each other’s decision regarding money. If you send money you’ll have to trust that your partner will send some back
CONTROL 0 5 There are two roles in the game- you can be either sender or receiver. As sender you start with a specific amount of money, and you can choose to send any amount. The amount triples for the receiver, and the receiver can decide to send any amount back. The receiver keeps the rest.
CONTROL 0 5 I am going to make a decision on how much money to send to the receiver, where the money will triple. They can then send back any amount they choose.
CONTROL 0 5 A game where 2 players risk their money in order to potentially triple it or lose it all. If you send money, you lose that money but the other player has it tripled, and vice versa.
CONTROL 0 5 The sender starts with $10 and has the option to share some or all of that money with a receiver. Anything that the receiver is sent is tripled. The receiver will then have an option to share some or all of that money with the sender.
CONTROL 0 5 This game involves two roles; the sender and receiver. The sender can send up to $10 to the receiver, and the amount the receiver receives is tripled. The receiver can then choose to send any amount of money back to the sender, which they will lose from their total received by the sender.
CONTROL 0 5 The sender will send X amount to the receiver, which will triple in their account. The receiver will send back X amount from their account.
CONTROL 0 5 The sender has 10 dollars , they can send any omount to the receiver. The amount triples when it gets to the receiver. The receiver can send any amount back they have available to the sender.
CONTROL 0 5 I will have a choice to send an amount of money to the receiver. This value triples, and I take a leap of faith in hoping that the receiver will send some money back to me in step 2 (so that we both make money).
CONTROL 0 5 I have $10. I give you $5, and some rich overseer triples it to $15. Now you have $15, and I have $5. You give me $7 back. I now have $12 and you have $8. I started with $10, you started with $0. I am profiting $2, you are profiting $8! Win Win.
CONTROL 0 5 You’re given $10 and must decide how much (if any)to share with the receiver. Any money you give is tripled. The receiver then has the option to send you money back, if they choose to do so.
CONTROL 0 5 This game has a sender and a receiver. The sender starts with \(10, and can send any value to the receiver, which will be tripled. The receiver can then decide to send some money back to the sender. CONTROL 0 5 You have the option of keeping or sending money to a random person, when you send the money the value triples for the person that you send it to. The person you sent the money to then has the option of keeping all the money or sending some money back to you.
CONTROL 0 5 In this game, you start with $10 in your account. There are two roles: you are the Sender, and someone else is the Receiver. You can choose to send any amount out of the $10 to the Receiver, and the Receiver receives triple the amount! For example, if you send them $2, they receive $6. in the next step, the Receiver can decide how much to return to you. They can only send part of all of what you sent to them. You have to decide if you have faith that they will send any money back to you.
CONTROL 0 5 You send money to someone. That money is tripled. They then decide how much of their money to send back to you.
CONTROL 0 5 i start out with $10. i then decide how much i would like to send to the receiver. the amount i send will be tripled for the receiver. they in turn decide how much of their money they would like to send to me
CONTROL 1 5 I transfer the funds that I have been given to the recipient. The amount is tripled, and the recipient has the option of sending me a portion of the extra cash.
CONTROL 0 5 I choose how much out of $10 to send to the receiver. And that is tripled, and then they decide how much to send back to me. And one group out of 50 will get the choices made as a bonus.
CONTROL 0 5 In this game, you’re putting your in a stranger by sending them an amount of money. That money triples in their account, and they then have the option to send some back. They may send nothing back. You’re taking a chance that they will be generous enough to send back enough so that you both profit.
CONTROL 0 5 The rules of this game are that you as the sender starts out with $10. You then decide how much you will trust a stranger to be fair in the game. Based on that decision, you will send the stranger part of your money, hoping that they will return the favor when it is their turn to have a chance to send money back to you. Whatever you send the stranger triples in their account, while what they send you remains that same amount in your account.
CONTROL 0 5 The sender starts with $10. The sender decides how much to send to the receiver. The money is multiplied. The receiver would then have $15. The receiver decides to either send $0 to $15 back to the sender. The receiver would then have the amount that is left.
CONTROL 0 5 I am choosing how much money to keep for myself and give away to someone else. I have the choice to keep all of it or share it and hope the other person sends some back to me.
CONTROL 0 5 I woukd describe it as a game of leap of trust. Its very dependent on who ur assigned with and there personality.
CONTROL 1 5 Whatever I send to the receiver triples on their end . In the second part, the receiver can also return money back and it will triple on my end.
CONTROL 0 5 There are the sender and receiver. The sender sends money and the receiver gets triple what the sender sends The receiver can decide to send money back and would be left with what ever is left of the money
CONTROL 1 5 In this game, the rules are that the sender will start with $10 in their account. The sender decides how much of the initial amount to send to the receiver. What is sent will be tripled for the receiver. The receiver decides how much to send back and how much they want to keep from that amount.
CONTROL 1 5 In this game, there is a Sender and a Receiver. You will be paired with another Cloud Research Participant. You will be the sender, and you start off with $10.00 in your account. You will choose an amount of $0 - $10.00 you want to send to the Receiver. The amount you choose will triple in value and the Receiver will receive that amount. You will keep what you did not send in your account. The Receiver then determines how much they will send back to you, from $0 - $15.00. What they do not send to you, they will keep in their account. 1 Pair of participants in 50 will be randomly selected to receive their amounts as a bonus. So the choices you both make could earn a bonus. You will be told a bit of information about the Receiver. I was told my Receiver works in their family business and feels good about taking care of their employees.
CONTROL 0 6 In this game, the sender can send money to the receiver. The amount sent triples and goes to the receivers account. Then the receiver has the option to return some of the money back.
CONTROL 0 6 There are two roles: Sender and Receiver. The Sender starts with $10 and can choose whether to send any of the money to the receiver. Whatever amount they send is triple in the receiver’s account. Afterward, The receiver can decide to send some of that money back to the send if they so choose.
CONTROL 0 6 The sender has $0 in the account they can share with another participant. The amount they share will be tripled when sent to the other participant. The other person can them return some of the tripled money to you to even things out.
CONTROL 0 6 There are two players, the sender and the receiver. The sender starts with $10 and decides how much to send to the receiver who gets triple the money sent. The receiver than can decide to send a certain amount back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 6 The game basically is like a trust fall. you get 10 dollars and you can decide how much you want to give to a random person, whatever you give to them triples and they can decide to send some of it back to you or decide to send nothing back to you
CONTROL 0 7 There are two people participating: the sender and the receiver. The sender has to decide how much of their allotted money to send to the receiver and that money will then be tripled. The receiver can then decide if they want to send money back/how much to send back.
CONTROL 0 7 You start with 10 dollars. You decide what to send the receiver. Whatever you send the receiver, they money will be tripled. Then out of the receiver’s total they will then chose an amount to send you.
CONTROL 0 7 I am to send an amount of money to the Sender out of $10.00 whatever I send, will triple for the receiver. They will then need to decide what to send back to me.
CONTROL 0 8 The sender decides how much money to give the receiver from their own account. That amount triples in the receiver’s account. The receiver then decides how much of that money to send back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 8 The game is comprised of a sender and receiver. It is important for the two roles to work together to maximize the payoff. The sender has $10 and the opportunity to send money to the receiver. That amount is tripled and the receiver can send money back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 8 The sender begins with $10 and can send any amount to the receiver. The amount sent is tripled. Then the receiver can send any amount back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 9 I will start with ten dollars and I can send some of it to another player. If I choose to send money that amount triples and the other person can choose how much to return to me.
CONTROL 1 9 I start with ten dollars in my account and choose how much money to send to the receiver. Whatever amount I send them triples in value. The receiver then decides how much of that tripled amount to send back to me.
CONTROL 0 10 give money to other person it triples but they may not send any back.. and youre left with nothing. they can decide to send anything back
CONTROL 0 10 I am the sender. I can choose what to send to the Receiver. What I send triples. Then, they can decided what to send back to me
CONTROL 0 10 This game is a give and take, the first person has a chance to keep $10 or triple it by sending it to a person. Then that person has a chance to keep the $30 or send some back to the person to sent the money.
CONTROL 0 10 There is a sender and receiver. Whatever the sender sends is tripled for the receiver and the receiver can decide how much to send back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 10 This game seems to be a game of trusting another person so you both can make money or just keepin the money for yourself and not trusting the other person.
CONTROL 0 10 As a sender, you can give a portion of your money to the receiver. Whatever you send will triple. At that point, the receiver will have the option to send back to you. Whatever they send is deducted from the balance of what you sent them.
CONTROL 0 10 Whatever I send to you is tripled. Of the amount you receive, you can either keep it all or return some or all of it to me. But I can also choose to send you nothing and keep all my money to myself
CONTROL 0 10 Working in a team as a trust blind relationship. Passing something in hope of getting a return based on trust.
CONTROL 0 10 There is a sender and receiver. The sender starts with $10 and can send any amount to the receiver. The amount sent triples and the receiver can send what ever amount they choose back to you.
CONTROL 0 10 I send a chosen amount of money to the receiver and it doubles on the way. They then choose how much, if any, to send back to me.
CONTROL 0 10 ok I give the person I’m partnered with any amount of my starting $. Whatever I choose to give triples. Then the choose how much to return.
CONTROL 0 10 I am given an amount of money. I can choose how much to send to my partner and it will be tripled. My partner can choose to send any portion of it back to me.
CONTROL 0 10 In this game the giver sends money to the receiver. On it’s way to the receiver whatever is sent is tripled. The receiver then sends money back to the giver. Obviously the best and fairest result for everyone involved is for the sender to send everything so it’s all tripled and the receiver to send back half.
CONTROL 0 10 The sender chooses to send any amount up to $10 to the receiver. The amount sent triples for the receiver. They can then choose how much money to send back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 10 I receive ten dollars and get the chance to share that amount with another participant; whatever I share to the recipient is tripled. The recipient then has a chance to send me money in return. There is a chance we could each end up with 15 dollars if played optimally.
CONTROL 0 10 There is a sender and a receiver. The sender can send as much of their $10 as they want to the receiver. The money triples in the receivers account. The receiver can then chose to give back to you however much money they want.
CONTROL 0 10 If you give to your partner they benefit greatly. If they choose they can share that benefit with you and everyone wins. If they choose not to give you receive nothing. If you choose not to give they receive nothing. Giving is of benefit to everyone.
CONTROL 0 10 I am trusting my partner with my money, hoping that they give some back to me and we can both have a chance to earn some. It could go badly, and I end up with nothing.
CONTROL 0 10 The game involves taking a risk with money to reward a stranger. However, you can also be rewarded by the stranger so think carefully.
CONTROL 0 10 This is a game in which I am given $10 and I have the chance to share some or all of it with another participant. The other participant receives that amount tripled and then has the option to send some or none back to me.
CONTROL 1 10 I am given $10, and I need to decide how much to send to my partner. The amount I send will be tripled and they will have to decide to send an amount back to me.
CONTROL 0 10 The sender chooses how much ($0-$10) to send to the receiver; any amount sent will triple itself in the receivers account. The sender keeps any amount of the $10 not sent. The receiver then chooses how much of their money - theoretically between ($0-$30) depending on what was sent to send back to the sender keeping whatever wasn’t sent for themselves.
CONTROL 0 10 There are two players to this game. A sender, and a receiver. The sender starts with \(10.00, and has the ability to send latexfda2f5512099cd77587cf59d2bc01fe0 to the receiver, which would triple the value of the money that was sent. If 5\) was sent, the receiver would now have $15.00. The receiver can then decide to send the amount received back to the sender, which would provide both parties compensation.
CONTROL 0 10 I start with $10 and decide how much to send a receiver; whatever I send triples and goes to the receiver. The receiver can then send money back to me, and will keep whatever they do not send.
CONTROL 0 10 There will be a sender that starts off with \(10 and they can choose any amount to send to the receiver. This amount is tripled and then the receiver has the choice of sending back any amount they choose. </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 1 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 10 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> This is a game based on two roles: sender and receiver. First, the sender is given 10 dollars. they are allowed to send any amount to the receiver. Any amount they send is tripled. The next step is the receiver decides how much of this money to send back and keeps the rest of the amount for themselves. </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 0 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 10 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> I as the sender get to decide how much money to send to the receiver. I can choose to send up to 10\). What ever amount I decide to send will get tripled. If I choose to send 0, the receiver gets nothing. The receiver will then decide to send any amount back that they got from when I sent. They can choose not to send any back.
CONTROL 0 10 I will start with $10 and choose how much of that 10 to send to the receiver. Any amount I send them will then be tripled in their account. Then the receiver can send back any of the amount they received to my account.
CONTROL 0 10 The game is basically a cooperative one. You are paired with someone and are either the sender or receiver. The sender decides the amount of money they give to the receiver. Any amount sent is tripled for the receiver. The receiver can decide if they’ll send money back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 10 I am the sender and I begin with $10, I can send all or part of my ten dollars to the receiver. What ever I send will be tripled. The receiver can then return some, or none, of the money back to me.
CONTROL 0 10 I get ten bucks. I have to make a choice of what to send to the other person. Whatever I send is 3x. Then they decide if they will send anything back or not.
CONTROL 0 10 its kind of a charity game, when u give they get it trippled, whatever they give u its entirely theyre choice.
CONTROL 0 10 You being with $10. You have the choice of sending the Receiver any amount of that money, or none at all. Whatever you send to them triples in value. It is then up to them to decide how much, if any, to return to you. If you send all $10, they receive $30, and may possibly send you back half, $15, giving you more than you would have had if you sent nothing at all. Or, they could send you nothing, and you end up with \(0. </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 0 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 10 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> the game is trusting random strangers to give the same kindness back. The point is to decided if ou will be selfish or not and try to maximize money for yourself or trust the stranger to send back. </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 0 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 10 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> I start with 10 dollars and can decide to send some or all of it to another participant. If I send any amount to the other person, that amount is tripled. Then the person can decide to keep all the money or share some with me. I have to trust that the other person will send me money back. </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 0 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 10 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> You can choose an amount to send someone else. They receive 3 times the amount. They then get to choose whether to send any of that money back to you. </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="text-align:left;width: 1cm; "> CONTROL </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 0 </td> <td style="text-align:right;width: 1cm; "> 10 </td> <td style="text-align:left;width: 4cm; "> I have 10\) given to me and have to decide how much to send to the other participant- the receiver. He then gets triple the amount sent and has to decide how much to send back to me. Only 1 out of 50 will actually receive the cash results of their decisions.
CONTROL 0 10 The sender can send money back or keep the tripled amount. Depending on how they feel that day and how they feel about the other person.
CONTROL 0 10 You will start with $10–you can send $0 through $10 to an anon person, and they will receive triple the amount. From that amount, the person can send back any amount and they will keep the rest.
CONTROL 0 10 I can send money or pocket money. If I send money it triples, otherwise it stays the same about. The person I send it to can send some money back to me afterwards.
CONTROL 0 10 The rules of the game are simple any money sent gets tripled. The receiver has the option to send any of the money sent back to the sender.
CONTROL 0 10 This game is played with two people. One person has a specific dollar amount that they can triple by sending it to the other. The first person picks a dollar amount they want to send to player 2. Player 2 then decides how much of this tripled money to return to player 1. It is a risk but could benefit both parties.
CONTROL 0 10 In this game you are given a specific amount of money and you can choose to keep it or pass it along to your partner. If you pass it along, that money triples in your partner’s account.
CONTROL 0 10 If you send a person money that that amount is tripled. But if you return money. You get to get what left of the difference for you self.
CONTROL 0 10 one person sends money it is tripled the someone else decides the split. Over all it is easy to understand and is a coop game to get the 1/50 chance reward.
CONTROL 0 10 One player is the sender who decides how much they want to give to the receiver. Whatever they send, it is tripled. Then the receiver decides how much to send back.
CONTROL 0 10 In this game I can send my partner a certain amount of money and hope that they send more back, or I can keep the amount that I already have and settle for that.
CONTROL 0 10 The Sender has the option to send any specific amount to the Receiver. Whatever amount the Sender sends to the Receiver is tripled in value. The Receiver then has the choice of sending any portion, or nothing, back to the Sender.
CONTROL 0 10 It is a fun game, there are two individuals who are the sender and the receiver, the sender has money while the receiver has none. What ever the sender sends would triple and the receiver has a choice to send some back. It’s a game of trust
CONTROL 0 10 You triple the money you send but the sender can keep all that money. The money is next passed back to the receiver, so it is in your best interest to send money to people
PT_10 0 0 I would think they would feel very happy and lucky to have received the $30. I would imagine that they would be generous and try to send back at least part of the money.
PT_10 1 0 They would be thinking about whether or not they should keep it. They would probably wonder if it was a real game, or if the other person was just a computer and the amount wouldn’t actually affect a real person.
PT_10 0 0 I would think that they are probably torn between sending money back which might seem like the right thing to do or keeping the money which would be most benificial to them. I think in the end they would probably keep all the money.
PT_10 0 0 They would feel thankful for them sending $10. I think they would think they owe it to them to send half of their earnings back to them so they each get $15.
PT_10 0 0 Receiver would be surprised and also would feel pressure. They would just want to keep the entire money but would struggle morally to do so. But then they would also doubt that sender was real versus a preset condition.
PT_10 1 0 The receiver would be surprised and pleased to receive $30 from the sender. With their stated motivation of pursuing low-effort activities, it is hard to say how attached they would be to the money itself; more tends to be better than less, obviously, but they might give a small amount back, such as $5 or less.
PT_10 0 0 I think the Receiver would be really excited and grateful about getting $30. I think they would probably want to keep it all, but might feel obligated to give some of it back to the Sender.
PT_10 0 0 It’t tough to say. My guess is that most would want to be fair and make an even spliot since the send has put trust in them. If they sendless or nothing back they might feel guilty. So my guess is that in most cases an expression of trust would facilitate trust.
PT_10 0 0 That they would be shocked to be trusted with so much money for really no good reason. That it is a huge leap of faith that they were given the entire amount.
PT_10 0 0 it presents an ethical question. We’re on here to make as much money as possible, but they sent the full amount thinking I’d trust them. The honorable thing would to be send 15 back and split 50/50… but… that’s not how this works. We’re struggling to make every cent. If I took the 30 from an anonymous person, what’s the harm? It will have no punishment.
PT_10 1 0 It’s great that this person sent me all the money because I can probably keep the entire $30. It’s not like the sender will ever know who I am.
PT_10 0 0 I believe the the receiver would be extremely happy and grateful that they have received $30 from the sender. Hopefully they would be thinking about how to share that money with the sender and beginging relationship base on cooperation with the sender.
PT_10 1 0 As the receiver I would be feeling blessed and happy to have the maximum amount of money in my account. I would then be contemplating if I would keep my windfall for myself or would send back a part of it as a sign of good faith.
PT_10 0 0 They would feel happy and overjoyed. They would be grateful to the sender. They would be eager in doing a favor back.
PT_10 0 0 The receiver would imagine what they could purchase with the $30. They would not think of splitting the money with the sender and would not be willing to cooperate.
PT_10 0 0 They sound lazy so they would probably keep all the money. They don’t want to think about it and want to keep it simple so they would simply do nothing in order to complete this task
PT_10 0 0 If the receiver received $30 from the sender, they would feel very happy and excited. They would probably feel a bit guilty if they don’t return any at all to the sender, so they will give back $10 or less because they want to keep most of the money for themselves.
PT_10 0 0 I would be thinking that’s a lot of money and I want it all. But then the little angel on my other shoulder would say that this person gave me so much because he trusts me to return some to him. So what kind of person would I be to not return it? Decisions, decisions.
PT_10 0 0 They are probably thinking there is no incentive to send back any of the $30. Since there is no penalty, I would guess they would want to keep it as they seem to live for themselves. Someone who enjoys IT that much is likely emotionally disturbed and selfish. I say this as someone who works as a software engineer and would thus not trust a person with this attitude.
PT_10 0 0 The person listed staying busy or something similar to that in their response. I don’t get much of a sense of trustworthiness from this response (not that it’s inherently untrustworthy, I just wouldn’t risk my own potential winnings). I think they’d be thinking of keeping the money.
PT_10 0 0 I think if I sent all $10 they would consider sharing half because it’s the fair thing to do, but I think they’d also consider that it’s just $15 and if they keep it, there’s no repercussions so why not keep it. If I sent anything less than $10, they would just keep it because I wasn’t generous enough to trust they would share back, so why would they. This is all assuming the Receiver knows how much I started with.
PT_10 0 0 It would be hard for me to give up any of this money. It would be simpler to just keep it all for myself.
PT_10 0 0 If you receive $30 from a sender you should feel grateful and willing to share with others. It is important to keep goodwill others extend to you.
PT_10 0 1 If I was in their shoes, I will be happy to have receive the maximum amount available. But I don’t see returning any of the amount back to the sender, I will gladly keep it all for myself without any regret.
PT_10 0 1 Putting myself in a receiver’s shoes and receiving $30, I will be happy and be willing to reciprocate the same energy to the sender.
PT_10 0 1 I think they would be feeling very grateful about receiving the 30 dollars., but I have a strong doubt that they would return any money to the sender, I think they would probably keep it.
PT_10 0 2 They would probably be happy that the sender decided to send them that much money. They would be thinking about how generous the sender was and would be thinking about how much to return.
PT_10 1 2 I would feel excited about receiving $30 dollars. I would also be thinking what I could do with the money. I would feel that I should send some of it back
PT_10 0 2 They are wondering what they should do. They are not sure if they feel correctly or if they should be selfish or be generous. They feel confused.
PT_10 0 2 They would probably feel like their partner trusts them for sending all $10. They might feel tempted to keep the $30 all for themself, but also feel guilty if they aren’t fair and send some back.
PT_10 0 3 They would be grateful for the $30. In the future, it may make them think about taking more of a chance in sending someone something in the hopes of being compensated in return.
PT_10 0 3 They might feel guilty not to return any money, but at the end of the day, the now have an additional $30 in their pocket. They are thankful for the Sender’s generosity.
PT_10 0 3 they would think that they hit the jackpot. they would be be tempted to keep the money. they would be suprised they got that much in the first place.
PT_10 0 3 I would be very grateful that someone decided to send me all of their potential bonus. I would wonder more about the person and their background.
PT_10 0 3 oh my, they gave me all their money, what do I do, should I give them only their $10 back or more? maybe I would give them have of this back that way we both have the same amount and I have more and they have more than what we started with?
PT_10 0 3 They would be wondering what would be expected of them to return to the Sender, but that would not necessarily be what they will do. I think they will keep half and send the other half ($15) on to the Sender, after consideration.
PT_10 0 3 Based on their earn easy money motive, I want to believe that they would be returning little to none lol
PT_10 0 3 They would be excited if they got $30 dollars and they would be imagining what they would spend it on. They also probably would not want send much back to the sender. I would be surprised if they sent any amount of it back to the receivers because they would want to keep the amount of money for themselves.
PT_10 0 4 The receiver would be feeling very pleased and grateful to have been sent thirty dollars from the sender. They would likely feel like they have to return some of the money to the sender in thanks.
PT_10 0 4 I would be grateful and touched that a complete stranger sent me their whole budget. I would feel an obligation to share the tripled money back with the originator. I would like to show them my thanks for including me in their funding.
PT_10 0 4 I would be happy to see that someone thought as much to send me that amount of money. I would want to pass on the act of kindness.
PT_10 0 4 Putting myself in the receiver’s shoes, I would be shocked to see me having $30 in my account which means the sender sent all he had taking a leap of faith referring to the initial $10. As a nice and considerable person that I am, I’d send half of what I have in my account.
PT_10 0 5 Any money is good money. They would feel appreciated and would be glad to receive this amount. They would be grateful to the fact that they have received this money
PT_10 0 5 I think they would be feeling pretty grateful to have received that much money. There also is the chance they might feel a bit selfish and want to keep the majority of it.
PT_10 0 5 The receiver would probably be happy. They would probably feel obligated to send something back in return.
PT_10 0 5 I think they would feel that the sender trusting them more than they should but since they sent me the full amount i must honor his trust and be fair. I would send back half of the 30.
PT_10 0 5 They should be grateful that it was sent. I think they should thank the sender that they had sent the money to them
PT_10 1 5 I would hope that they would be grateful. Maybe even pass some of it on as a donation to their favorite volunteer organization.
PT_10 0 5 Aside from a detailed description of being a data analyst, I didn’t get much of a perspective into how they are as a charitable human being. But they seem very focused on helping others receive useful data, so maybe the receiver would return some to me as the sender.
PT_10 0 5 If I were the receiver and was sent $30, I would consider either taking 1/2 or 2/3s of it and sending the rest back. If I believe the sender to be trustworthy to continue sending half payments I would send 1/2 back consistently.
PT_10 0 5 I think the receiver would feel very grateful and humbled by receiving the full $30. I think they would think the sender was selfless and kind.
PT_10 1 5 As the Receiver, I’d be pleasantly surprised to receive $30 from the Sender. I might feel a sense of gratitude and goodwill, making me more inclined to return a fair amount to the Sender.
PT_10 0 5 I think the receiver would be feeling very grateful for receiving this amount. I think they would try to be fair in returning half the amount to the sender.
PT_10 0 5 They try to be fair and cooperative. Also prefer to receive same/similar return from receiver, so that the sender receive triples.
PT_10 0 5 I believe the Receiver would feel a sense of gratitude for the Sender’s generosity. I believe they would also feel a sense of obligation to reciprocate by returning some of the money back to the Sender.
PT_10 0 5 Enjoy learning new things. The finish line isn’t as interesting to me as the race itself. I prefer a job where I don’t have to communicate with people due to my shyness, but I like it when people approach me. I’m an odd egg.
PT_10 0 5 The receiver would be happy to receive $30. The receiver will probably thinking how much he will share what he received.
PT_10 0 5 I think they would be thrilled to receive $30 from the sender. They would likely feel very grateful that the sender made such a gracious and considerate decision to send the entirety of the money.
PT_10 0 5 I feel like the receiver would be very glad and caught off guard that the sender sent them so much and trusted them . The receiver would be happy and thrilled.
PT_10 1 5 I would think that $30.00 is a fantastic bonus and super generous of the sender. I also make really good money as a data analyst so I will send some back. I think I’ll send 5.00 or 10.00 back.
PT_10 0 5 As a recipient of the 30 dollars, I would feel extremely honored and excited that someone would feel that highly of me
PT_10 0 5 The received said they like working with people, so receiving $30 to them confirms how much they like people. They in turn will want to do something kind for the sender and would send them anything from $10-$15 back.
PT_10 0 5 I think the person would be very suprised that the sender trusted them that much. I think they would feel grateful and honored. They would feel much more obligated to send money back to the sender. I think they may possibly feel obligated to send at least half of the money back to the sender to show their gratitude.
PT_10 0 5 I already have more than I started with and am grateful for that, so I would likely send half back. I would be appreciative that my partner wanted to send me money at all.
PT_10 0 5 They would be feeling that I am generous and will be considering how much to send back. Usually for a dishonest person, he feels like he’s won a jackpot and might not send a dime back but for someone who will also put me in his shoes, he will like to send about 15 back and make us equals
PT_10 0 5 They might feel happy and trusted considering the fact that the receiver sent the whole money. They might feel the need to be cooperative to split the money and send half back to the sender.
PT_10 0 5 I think are two possible ways they would feel after receiving $30. First, there is a possibility they would feel gratitude and automatically take on the belief that they should be generous once they assume the role of Sender. On the other hand, they may be happy, but not feel any obligation to return the generosity or make the same choice when assuming the other role.
PT_10 0 5 THE RECEIVER YOULD BE THINKING IF HE/HER SENDS ANY MONEY AT ALL. SINCE THE RECEIVER DOES NOT KNOW ME,WHY SEND ANY AMOUNT AT ALL
PT_10 1 5 I think that since their role is faced paced, they would feel hesitant at sending a substantial amount. They would make a safe choice in regard to the funds given to them.
PT_10 0 6 They would feel appreciative. They probably would want to share some of the profit and not keep it all on their own.
PT_10 0 6 I feel the person who sent me the money was very kind and generous. It seems as if they care about what’s going on and wants to make sure things are good.
PT_10 1 6 The receiver would likely be excited and surprised that a sender forwarded them the maximum amount. They would probably feel obligated to send up to half of the amount they received back.
PT_10 0 7 They would most likely be thinking about spending that money on their golf trip or other plans that they must have had.
PT_10 0 7 The receiver will feel really glad if they received such amounts and will feel the sender trust them so much
PT_10 0 7 I know my receiver would feel very grateful to receive that amount of money from me and would show gratitude
PT_10 0 7 So if I received 30 then it means my partner sent the entire 10 dollars. Because of this we now have the max amount possible on my end.
PT_10 1 7 I believe the receiver in this situation would feel very delighted and almost undeserving of receiving a large amount of money from the sender. They stated in their description that they like to enrich the lives of those around them, so I feel they would return half of the money to stay consistent with this outlook.
PT_10 0 8 Wow, this is a nice chunk of money! Should I split it with my partner, or keep it for myself? It would be nice to have that all in my account, but my partner did trust me enough to send me everything.
PT_10 0 9 I am amazed that the sender would be so generous and send me all of their money. This was unexpected, and encourages me to “play it forward”.
PT_10 0 9 I would be grateful for them sending and supporting me. I feel compelled to give them at least what they sent to me, I believe in fairness. I would also think it is a lot of money considering anticipating the original 10 dollars. I would have asked if they sent too much on accident actually haha if I expected 10 and got a lot back I would try to resolve the situation.
PT_10 0 10 It’s a refreshing surprise to have kindness paid forward by a stranger and rekindles my faith in people.
PT_10 0 10 Since this person likes to deal with data and patterns, I would think they would send back $15 to the person. It would be an even number split which is they like information and data, would be a pleasant feeling to them.
PT_10 0 10 they would probably be excited to see the max, and willing to share some of that trust in the other direction
PT_10 0 10 They may send $15 back as a thank you for the generosity of the sender, and that way the amounts they receive are equitable.
PT_10 0 10 I would feel excited that the sender had trusted me with all of their money. I would also feel obligated to send a good amount back to them as a thank you
PT_10 0 10 I imagine they would be feeling pretty happy if they were to receive $30 from the sender, and so they should.
PT_10 0 10 I would be pretty excited to get the $30 and also feel like that was the best thing for the sender to do.
PT_10 0 10 As the receiver, I think they would be feeling that the sender is very generous and that they should return the favor if not 50% (aka so we both get $15) or they would be feeling like I’ve really hit the jackpot with this mark and now I get to keep all $30 of this money.
PT_10 0 10 I’d feel really grateful but feel like I owe the sender at least the $10, $15 if I’m being generous and fair
PT_10 0 10 They would be thinking woohoo I got $30. I wonder what I will spend this entire $30 on?I’m glad I got a sucker to send me all their money.
PT_10 0 10 If I was in that position, I would without doubt send back $15 so that we both make an equal amount of money. In the context of this project however, I think there is a very good chance that they will send nothing back.
PT_10 0 10 I would feel excited about receiving $30. Knowing that the sender sent all their money to me, I think I would return $15 so we can each have an even amount.
PT_10 0 10 I would be happy that the Sender has sent me $10 dollars and it has tripled to $30. I would do my part to give them money and return the favor as well. I would send them at least $15 so the money is equal
PT_10 0 10 If a receiver were to receive $30 from a Sender, they would probably think that was very generous of the Sender. They would probably feel good about it and feel it was a positive experience that someone trusts them to send some money back to them.
PT_10 1 10 They would feel good I imagine and also maybe obligated to return some of the funds. It really depends on their personal values.
PT_10 0 10 The Receiver is the type of person that likes to be a leader and lead by example. They will want to share half of what they have received in order to exhibit the collaborative and cooperative team environment that want to exist.
PT_10 0 10 This person has a large amount of trust in me to maximize the amount of money we can potentially win. I should probably do the right thing here and send them half of the money I now have so that we both come away with an equal amount.
PT_10 0 10 I think they’d feel happy. I think they’d like knowing the trust that was put in them. I tend to find quiet creatives are some of the nicer people you’ll meet so I do imagine they’d want to be fair and send a reasonable amount back to me. If I was in their role I certainly would send back half of the money as I try to be nice and fair to everyone and I believe that would be fair.
PT_10 0 10 The receiver would feel elated because they received the maximum. I would like to think the receiver would at least give $10 at a minimum back to the sender as a thank you
PT_10 0 10 They would be thinking that the sender was very trusting, and considering whether to be fair with them. They might be thinking that they could keep all 30 for themself, but they know that it is wrong to do. They will probably think that the fair thing to do is send half back - after all, they had nothing to start out with, and the sender is counting on them.
PT_10 0 10 The Receiver seems like a nice and trustworthy person. I think they would think it’s fair to return $20 and keep $10.
PT_10 0 10 The receiver would be feeling surprise and maybe a little excited. Then they’d have to consider how much they’d like to keep and how much to send back, which may be accompanied by a number of feelings depending on their decision. They could be feelings altruistic or guilty based on their final decision.
PT_10 0 10 I think this person would feel surprised that I sent them the entire amount and would be very happy. I think they would feel very good about me.
PT_10 0 10 I would imagine they would feel incredibly grateful that a complete stranger sent them this money. I think they in turn would want to repay the stranger as well.
PT_10 0 10 The sender hooked me up with max payout. Perhaps I should return the favor. If I sent at least $10 back, that should make us even.
PT_10 0 10 Really happy for the $30. Unsure about if to send any back, but probably will send some. Might send half back.
PT_10 0 10 They would feel so grateful for the generosity shown to them. They will want to split the money they receive to be fair.
PT_10 0 10 Getting $30 is fantastic! I should return half of that as a thank you for being so generous. Working together helps everybody out.
PT_10 0 10 I think that they would feel very grateful. It would give them a strong sense of appreciation to receive a thoughtful give from a stranger.
PT_10 0 10 It would clearly indicate to me that the sender has put their trust in me to return the money that was given in order to maximize the benefit for both of us. However, considering this is an anonymous transaction there would seem to be little penalty for keeping the $30 for myself. However, I would personally feel obligated to return the funds to them for placing their trust in me.
PT_10 0 10 I think they’d be thinking that they have an unselfish partner. I think that would make them more likely to then send half or so of the money back to the sender.
PT_10 0 10 It was showing a lot of trust to send me the full amount of their allotment, I think I should be responsible and share it. It will make both of us feel good about the experience.
PT_10 0 10 They would appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt since it would mean i trust them enough to expect they would send something back.
PT_10 0 10 I think they would probably be surprised if they received the full amount, because people are typically not that charitable and usually in it for their own gain.
PT_10 0 10 I would feel great, the sender put a generous amount towards out of generosity or trust. Either way i would be happy to repay them
PT_10 0 10 They would feel happy to receive $30 and obliged to return half of it to a fellow worker on connect. We work on honesty here so I trust people here more than random strangers.
PT_10 0 10 They would be feeling happy to get the money. After that, who knows, they might feel selfish, generous, guilty, or obligated to send the money back to the sender.
PT_10 0 10 I would feel grateful that the Sender trusted me enough to send their entire amount and I would send half of my account back to the Sender.
PT_10 0 10 they could be thinking about keeping all of it for themselves. some people cant be trusted when it comes to money.
PT_10 0 10 I would think, wow, the Sender was really generous. I should show my gratitude for the Sender’s generosity by returning $15 to the Sender.
PT_10 0 10 Used to being in command of a lot of people, they would be feeling confident and secure. They like being trusted and prove themselves trustworthy. They would be thinking about fairness and how they would want to divide dollar amounts and what would be fair. They would be willing to split the amount down the middle, trust begets trust, after all. They would want to be fair and prove trustworthiness after their partner trusted them. And splitting the money evenly would seem to be the most fair option to them. Pleasure in being trusted means that they would be happy and willing to trust more in return.
PT_10 0 10 I would be happy that the sender sent me that, and I would have to give back as a courtesy. I would send them 15.
PT_10 0 10 They will feel happy and Also glad for the generosity and also feel indebted to pay back. I feel they will want to also return a reasonable amount of money
PT_10 0 10 I’m pretty sure the Reciever (who started with $0, then received $10 from Sender, which became $30) will divide the amount and give $15 back to the Sender, and they will keep $15 for themselves.
PT_10 0 10 I feel like they would be feeling.very excited with receiving 30.dollars . They would probably think I’m a decent or nice person . They may want to know more about me in general.
PT_10 0 10 I think the receiver would be grateful. They have a tag line of you only have 1 life to live. I believe that person is trustworthy.
PT_10 0 10 I believe that the receiver would feel reaffirmed in their preference as an individual who prefers working with others. They may experience some amount of joy and commonality in the human experience even though this is an exchange done over the internet.
PT_10 0 10 I would feel great that I got $30. I would be internally thinking - do I share half or do I keep it for myself.
PT_10 0 10 They will feel like the sender trust them and they should not betray the sender’s trust. It is natural for people to think of maximizing everything to their advantage but in this case, the receiver should reciprocate the good gesture.
PT_10 0 10 I would feel shocked as a reveiecer knowing the send sent all the money to me. And I would also feel like I have to pay it forward and make a fair decision.
PT_10 0 10 They would feel excited and thankful that their sender decided to bless them with the full amount as an act of good faith. They would want to thank the Sender for their generosity.
PT_10 0 10 I think this person sounds like a fair person. They have plenty of money working in IT. I think they would be excited to get $30 but split it 50/50.
