The article linked above analyzes the median age of each Congress since 1919 (the first Congress to be entirely directly elected.) The article primarily shows how the median ages of both chambers has trended upwards over time, and discusses the outsize influence of the Baby Boomer generation in the 21st century. In my analysis, I am going to compare the ages of the members of the current Congress across party lines.

## Renaming Columns and Values
Here I renamed all the columns, adding clarity where necessary by providing a more complete column name and capitalizing substantial words for stylistic continuity. I also replaced each party code with the name of the party in question.

Here I created four subsets, one of the current Congress, one of Republicans, one of Democrats, and another of Independents, all in the current meeting of Congress. I filtered by the number of the current meeting of Congress, 118, and by party. I also excluded all the columns that would be the same for every row within that subset, namely, what meeting of Congress it was, their start date, and the party.

Statistics and Graphics
Since I want to compare the ages of each party in Congress, I found the five number summary of the age, in years, of each subset. Since there are only three independent memebrs of the current Congress, I decided to compare only the ages of the Democrats and Republicans in a boxplot. I also sorted all members of the current Congress by their age in order to get a glimpse of the members at the extreme ages.

Findings and Recommendations
The findings shown above reveal that the Democratic party is generally older than the Republican party, having the greater mean, median, and 3rd quartile ages, with roughly comparable maximum and 1st quartile ages. Interestingly, sorting by age reveals that, at a glance, Democrats are more represented at both the high and low extremes.
The article notes that although Congress today is older than ever in the past, the population as a whole is also aging. Further study could incorporate data showing the median age of the 25+ population and the 30+ population at the time, and create new column, one showing the difference between the median age of the House and the median age of the 25+ population, and another showing the difference between the median age of the Senate and the median age of the 30+ population. Line graphs of these differences over time would reveal whether Congress is trending older than the age of the population overall, or whether the current age gap is roughly similar to what it has been in the past.
