This is a report into the Australian Consumer Price Index (CPI)1 for the quarter ending 2023-Q2. The chart below sets out these results over the last 2 years.
The bar chart shows the % movement in the CPI for quarter-on-quarter and also the overall index for each quarter between 2021-Q3 and 2023-Q2.
The results show that the CPI index had a 0.83% jump in the latest quarter of 2023-Q2 and this movement was greatly lower than the previous quarter of 1.4%. This corresponds to the axis on the left hand side. The trend in CPI movements for the last 4 quarters has been broadly falling. Over the last 2 years, the highest quarterly movement was 2.1% in 2022-Q1 followed by 1.9% in 2022-Q4 while the lowest was 0.76% in 2021-Q3.
The overlaid line shows the overall index as 133.7 for the latest quarter of 2023-Q2 with this being higher than the previous quarter of 132.6. This corresponds to the axis on the right hand side. The trend for the index over the last 4 quarters has been upwards throughout.
