Lower Middle-Income category of countries. The cutoff for the Upper
Middle-Income category is $4,466, while that for the High Income
category is $13,846.
The UN Human Development Index uses GNI per capita (2017 PPP) as the indicator of a country’s standard of living. In 2021, India’s income per capita of $6,590, along with its life expectancy of 67.2 years, 11.9 expected years of schooling and 6.7 mean years of schooling, yielded an HDI of 0.633, giving India a rank of 132 in the world.
