A positive for this dataset are the fact that it has numerous different classifications of hate crimes, it doesn’t only contain the “Top 5”. It also covers all counties in New York. A negative of this dataset is it is limited by years, only giving from 2010-2016. With some of the data being ~10 years old, it would be interesting to see how 2017-2023 compares. Another negative is that not all hate crimes are reported and so the findings on reported hate crimes might not show the complete picture. Two parts of these datasets I would study are the anti-physicaldisability and anti-mentaldisability. I would be interested in seeing what part of the total incidents and total victims these crimes make up. I would use these results to recommend specialized education programs for communities that show increases in specific hate crimes. I would also use community outreach in the counties where certain hate crimes decreased to learn if there was a cause for the decrease, or if it just naturally occurred.
