  • Over the decades, mass shooting has shown to skyrocket especially after 2010.
  • Overwhelming number of incidents are carried out by males and those in the younger age groups, specifically between 15-24 years old.
  • Even more concerning is that there is a mass shooter as young as 11 years of age.

Is anywhere safe?

Where are we most at risk?

  • The pie chart illustrates the unpredictability of mass shooting, as it can occur in any open space at any given moment of time.
  • However, workplaces and schools are tragically singled out to be the two most common places for such horrific events to occur.

But why?

  • Mental health struggles is a recurring theme which raises the question of whether mental health support systems in the U.S. is available, accessible and adequate.

  • The fact that firearms were obtained by legal means in a significant number of these cases, demonstrates that the current gun laws require serious revision in order to enforce better, stricter laws regarding prohibition and control of firearms.

What’s the next step? (Prevention)

  • Improve access to mental health services by increasing funds
  • Pass laws that seek to prohibit gun control
  • Reduce the stigma associated with seeking help and mental illnesses
